Streeting said.<\/p>\n<p>He identified the period around 2030 as a critical turning point, when hostile powers could expand their forces and transform their economies to support large-scale military operations. <\/p>\n<div class=\"mt-5 text-center mb-5\" style=\"min-height: 305px;\"><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Their desire to harm us has not changed, but their tactical and strategic capabilities have,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Streeting emphasized that Britain must rapidly strengthen its deterrence capabilities to discourage hostile powers from launching attacks.<\/p>\n<p>He warned that if deterrence fails, Britain and its allies have only slightly more than 1,000 days to ensure they are ready to fight and win immediately.<\/p>\n<p>The warning was not limited to the possibility of conventional military invasion.<\/p>\n<p>Streeting also identified state-backed hybrid terrorism and sabotage targeting critical infrastructure as potential threats.<\/p>\n<p>Such attacks could disrupt essential services, spread public fear and combine conventional military operations with irregular forms of warfare.<\/p>\n<p><b>Government urges households to prepare for 72 hours<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The warning coincides with the British government&#8217;s efforts to strengthen civilian emergency preparedness.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the government formally announced its &#8220;Be Ready&#8221; campaign, encouraging households to prepare enough supplies to survive independently for 72 hours.<\/p>\n<p>Recommended items include drinking water, canned food, flashlights and portable radios.<\/p>\n<p>The campaign reflects a broader shift in Britain&#8217;s national security approach toward preparing both military forces and civilian society for wartime emergencies.<\/p>\n<p>The governing Labour Party has also begun a major overhaul of the armed forces, criticizing previous governments for what it describes as inadequate defense management. <\/p>\n<div class=\"mt-5 text-center mb-5\" style=\"min-height: 305px;\"><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>Streeting said Britain&#8217;s military personnel numbers had fallen to their lowest level since the Napoleonic Wars under previous Conservative governments, while recruitment failures and declining morale had gone unaddressed.<\/p>\n<p>He said the current government had implemented the largest defense spending increase since the end of the Cold War.<\/p>\n<p>The government has placed rebuilding the defense industrial base and strengthening regular military forces among its highest priorities.<\/p>\n<p><b>Lessons for security on the Korean Peninsula<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Britain&#8217;s warning about a possible conflict within 1,000 days and its campaign encouraging households to maintain emergency supplies also carry implications for security on the Korean Peninsula.<\/p>\n<p>North Korea is strengthening its missile and nuclear capabilities through closer ties with Russia while seeking to compensate for weaknesses in its conventional forces through drones, unmanned systems and fortifications along the Demilitarized Zone.<\/p>\n<p>Britain&#8217;s efforts to prepare for a potential large-scale conflict therefore offer lessons for South Korea&#8217;s defense planning.<\/p>\n<p>Joo Eun-sik, director of the Korea Research Institute for Strategy, told Asia Today on Sunday that the European security threat projected for 2030 goes beyond conventional border disputes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The crisis Europe anticipates in 2030 is not simply a border conflict but a sophisticated combination of provocations by hostile powers that have shifted to wartime economies,&#8221; Joo said. <\/p>\n<div class=\"mt-5 text-center mb-5\" style=\"min-height: 305px;\"><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>He said South Korea should move beyond maintaining conventional military capabilities centered on main battle tanks and artillery.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;South Korea must accelerate the operational deployment of drone- and AI-based manned-unmanned combat systems and reassess its nationwide civilian and military emergency preparedness,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The underlying challenge, according to the analysis, is to strengthen deterrence sufficiently to discourage aggression while establishing an integrated emergency response system involving civilians, government agencies and the military.<\/p>\n<p>Without those measures, the warning emerging from Europe could also serve as an indication that South Korea&#8217;s own window for strengthening national security preparedness is narrowing.<\/p>\n<p><i>&#8212;
