A shooting \u2060near a Florida<\/a> university campus in Tallahassee has left 11 people \u2060with gunshot wounds \u2060and \u200banother person injured, authorities say.
The shooting took place near the Florida Agricultural + Mechanical University\u2019s campus \u2060on Perry Street on Saturday night, the university said, while police counted <\/strong>six adults and six \u2060juveniles among the injured.
\u201cAt least three of the shooting \u200bvictims have sustained serious \u200cinjuries, while nine \u200cothers are reported to be in stable condition,\u201d \u200cthe Tallahassee police said in a statement on Saturday night.
By Sunday morning, five victims had been released from the hospital and one remained in critical condition, according to a social media post<\/a> by Tallahassee police.
Police said the shooting took place at an intersection near the university\u2019s Bragg stadium just before 8pm, according to a statement made on social media<\/a>. A homecoming football game<\/a> had just ended.
Initial findings showed a \u201cphysical altercation\u201d <\/strong>took place before the shooting, police said, adding that they were working to identify \u201cthose responsible\u201d.
Florida A+M said in a social media post<\/a> late Saturday night: \u201cThe \u200bsafety and \u200bsecurity of our students, faculty, and staff remain our highest priority.\u201d
In a Sunday morning press conference<\/a>, police \u200cchief Lawrence Revell told reporters: \u201cI stand before you devastated.\u201d
\u201cSix of the victims are adults and six of the victims are juveniles. We know that the youngest victim is 11 years old. At least three of our victims have sustained serious injuries and one of those are in critical condition,\u201d he said.
He continued by noting that \u201cpreliminary information shows that an altercation occurred between individuals\u201d and that \u201cinformation is being developed\u201d as his team is \u201cstill working the scene\u201d.
\u201cWe do not know exactly what happened. Our priority is to determine that, to figure out what happened and why it happened. What we do believe is that this was an isolated incident between two or three individuals and nothing more than that,\u201d he said.
No arrests have been made, Revell said, and police believe only one shooter was involved.
He then praised the officers involved, saying they ran \u201cinto the middle of this, still not knowing where the shooters were, still not knowing how many victims we had.\u201d
\u201cWe had officers that were picking up victims and carrying them in their arms to transport victims because they couldn\u2019t get through the mass of people,\u201d he said.
Of the victims and their families, Revell said: \u201cwe\u2019re thinking of you and we hurt with you.\u201d
