A judge on Monday ordered the release of a Kentucky woman who was accused of vandalism<\/a> at the World War II Memorial<\/a> in Washington last week, court records showed.
U.S. Attorney \u200cJeanine Pirro, the top federal prosecutor in Washington, criticized the order that led to the release of the woman, Melissa Farris, 41, who was taken into \u200bcustody last week and charged with two felony counts.
Court documents showed \u200bFarris agreed to conditions of her release including surrendering her \u2060passport and not leaving the continental United States unless approved by court.
The Justice \u200bDepartment urged a reconsideration of Monday\u2019s order and said the woman was \u201ca \u200brisk of flight.\u201d
The World War II Memorial was vandalized with bubbly soap and graffiti on Thursday. The fountain bubbled over with suds and the words \u201cClean hands Dirty $\u201d \u200bwere painted on one surface, splattering the area with red and \u200bgreen paint.
In earlier videos posted to her Facebook account, Farris recorded herself spray painting \u200cthe \u2060memorial. She described herself on social media as a \u201cpirate captain\u201d who is \u201cpanhandling for America.\u201d
In Facebook posts, Farris had said she was planning the August 13 action to draw attention to U.S. tax dollars not being spent \u200bon ordinary Americans \u200band to what \u2060she alleged were corporate racketeering, embezzlement and slave labor practices, among other issues.
A preliminary hearing is set \u200bfor September 3.
Judge Pirro has recently drawn President Donald Trump\u2019s<\/a> anger \u200bfor dropping \u2060charges against four people the Justice Department had accused of vandalizing the Reflecting Pool after Trump oversaw renovations of the pool.
The pool\u2019s condition soon \u2060deteriorated, with \u200ba peeling liner and algae blooms. When \u200bdropping the vandalism charges, Pirro blamed the deterioration on faulty installation. Trump said she had \u201cfolded \u200blike an umbrella.\u201d
