During the week, \u201cParticipants examined how cities can improve waste management service delivery, strengthen institutions, finance waste systems sustainably and gradually advance toward circular economy models,\u201d says the organization.<br \/>A central feature of the program was learning from Japan&#8217;s long-term experience in building effective waste management systems through what the World Bank calls strong governance, citizen participation and continuous sustained efforts to advance recycling and circularity. <br \/>Numerous Japanese cities hosted the World Bank delegates, with site visits held at a waste-to-energy (WTE) facility, a community \u201cclean center\u201d that diverts food scraps and a town \u201cknown for achieving one of Japan&#8217;s highest recycling rates.\u201d<br \/>States the World Bank, \u201cIn Kamakura City, participants witnessed first-hand how municipalities, universities, businesses, financial institutions and citizens are working together to advance a circular economy.\u201d Kamakura City is located about 35 miles south of Tokyo.<br \/>Technical sessions focused on approaches to addressing waste- and recycling-related challenges, including behavior change and cost recovery mechanisms, says the World Bank.<br \/>The TDD was designed in part to provide global expertise, Japanese experience and peer-to-peer learning opportunities, says the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldbank.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">World Bank<\/a>, providing participants with \u201cpractical knowledge and actionable ideas to strengthen solid waste management systems\u201d after participants return to their countries.<br \/>\u201cIn Chad, waste is simply thrown into the river valleys and in public places,\u201d says Adam Yaya Abdel Mahamoud from that nation. \u201cThe week-long lessons learned in Tokyo directly align with the president\u2019s [new] policy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/news.google.com\/rss\/articles\/CBMikwFBVV95cUxQSjkzbDRSanNNdnVUSm5nNDJzbjgxQk1fQld1QmFOMks1ZkM0MlVrM1JIempHNWJWWDVZMHB0ZWgwM3FWWm9SUTBXaWZ4bDdGYmtscjdnSHd5YXZkYjBoRWVuQkE4N3N0QkExSmVVTDJEd29FWjNNODVuOXZFU1hCV0VWRW9BejhPR3d4dDZIV1NyOEE?oc=5\">source<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The international organization hosted guests in Japan to examine that nation&#x2019;s municipal waste and recycling system and infrastructure.
