The Kennedy Center board voted to re-add Trump\u2019s name to the arts center\u2019s facade.
The Trump-appointed Kennedy Center board on Thursday voted to partially close the iconic arts center for up to two years during renovations and to re-add President Donald Trump\u2019s name<\/a> to the building\u2019s facade, according to one person who attended the virtual board meeting and a second person familiar with the meeting.
The decision would close the Kennedy Center\u2019s main building while keeping a smaller addition, known as the Reach, open for some events in response to a May court order<\/a> requiring the board to keep the center as a memorial to President John F. Kennedy.
After an almost two-hour Zoom meeting, the board voted 20 to 3 to change the name of the building to \u201cThe John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Restored and Renovated by President Donald J. Trump\u201d and the physical location to \u201cPresident Donald J. Trump Plaza.\u201d Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick proposed the name change.
Trump, who appointed himself chairman of the board last year, joined the call for several minutes, according to the source who attended the meeting.

Rep. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., said he did not plan to return money donated to his campaign from a group affiliated with Rep. Max Miller, R-Ohio, as Miller faces allegations that he abused his ex-wife and daughter.

Lawler told CNN that he’s spoken with Miller multiple times about the allegations, which Miller has repeatedly denied, adding, “This is something that should play out in family court. I think the fact that some in the media and my Democratic colleagues have tried to turn it into a spectacle and you know use this situation for political points is wrong.”
He added later in the interview that the allegations leveled against Miller, which came from his wife in their divorce and child custody proceedings, are part of a political “game.” Miller has not faced any criminal charges related to the allegations.
“This is the typical Washington media game, where it’s always: an allegation comes up, you must return the money. It’s, it’s the typical game everybody plays, and it doesn’t actually do anything to further the situation,” the New York congressman said. “If there’s evidence that Max did something, then obviously there should be a thorough investigation of that. But thus far, there’s been nothing to verify any of the claims that have been leveled.”
In his repeated denials of wrongdoing, Miller has called for the House Ethics Committee to investigate <\/a>the allegations against him, saying that an investigation will prove he did nothing wrong. The Ohio congressman has also committed to running for reelection, despite the growing number of calls<\/a> from lawmakers in his own party for Miller to resign.
A senior administration official dismissed the suggestion that the White House had a “duty to warn” staffers and press who flew the so-called \u201cdecoy plane\u201d home from Ankara of the danger they may have faced from an Iranian strike.
In the administration\u2019s view, the \u201cduty to warn\u201d applies only to the person being threatened. In that case \u2014 the person who was the target of the threat was Trump, not the other people traveling with him. They felt no duty to warn anyone beyond what was necessary to keep him safe.
Others have publicly questioned <\/a>that interpretation of the concept.
Former national security adviser John Bolton, who himself faced threats from Iran during Trump\u2019s first term, said he has been notified multiple times about the danger under the \u201cduty to warn\u201d provision.
Still, he said, had unknowing passengers been warned of the precautions underway, Trump might have been exposed to greater risk, Bolton said.
\u201cIf you give \u2018duty to warn,\u2019 you might as well broadcast it to the world, which complicates getting him [Trump] out,\u201d he said.
Asked earlier this week about the staff perspective on the risks associated with that episode, a U.S. official who was on the trip told NBC News, \u201cThe president\u2019s safety and security is paramount, and there are statutes governing that. The safety of the press and staff are not treated the same. Those are the risks everyone signs up for. If I die, I die.\u201d

“In her short time in the Senate, @DarlineGrahamSC has shown she is willing to act \u2014 including supporting an end to the filibuster, something career politicians have talked about for years,” Evette said in a post to X. <\/a>“Ralph Norman may have a conservative record, but after 20+ years in office, South Carolinians deserve more than talk, they deserve results.”
Evette lost in a race for the GOP nomination for governor in a runoff against state Attorney General Alan Wilson.
Trump initially endorsed Evette in May, but he offered an additional endorsement in June of Wilson as well.

Karoline Leavitt is the fifth prominent woman to leave the administration this year, joining the ranks of former Attorney General Pam Bondi, former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, former Labor Secretary Laurie Chavez-DeRemer and former intelligence director Tulsi Gabbard. All of them have been replaced thus far by men: Todd Blanche, Markwayne Mullin, Keith Sonderling and Jay Clayton, respectively.
Leavitt is one of only a small group of women to hold her position: Dee Dee Myers, Dana Perino, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Kayleigh McEnany, Stephanie Grisham, Jen Psaki and Karine Jean-Pierre.
Democratic lawmakers are pressing the Trump administration to provide answers about reports describing sailors trying to jump overboard from the USS Abraham Lincoln, which has been on an extended deployment overseas.
In a letter<\/a> sent yesterday to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao, Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., said there have been “widespread reports of shortages of basic supplies, water contamination, plumbing issues, deteriorating mental health, deck safety concerns, and disruptions in the mail system.”
Blumenthal said the reports “warrant immediate attention” and raise the question of “whether the Navy can sustain the operational tempo now being demanded of its carrier force.”
The Navy Times<\/a> and Stars and Stripes<\/a> both reported this week about sailors on the ship struggling with their mental health, including attempts to jump overboard.
Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., a Marine Corps veteran who served in the Iraq War, said on X<\/a> that the Navy must allow a bipartisan congressional delegation to visit the aircraft carrier “to conduct oversight investigation into this horrible situation.” Gallego said these delegations “have visited war zones to inspect the conditions of our troops. There is no reason to be denied access.”
Another Marine Corps veteran who served in Iraq, Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., said in an interview on CNN<\/a> that Democrats on the House Armed Services Committee will be conducting an investigation into the reports. “Zero suicides is the only acceptable number,” he said.
The Pentagon has not responded to questions from NBC News about the reported situation on the ship.
