Joe Biden\u2019s prostate cancer is reportedly \u2018debilitating\u2019, even as ex-president continues to speak out on public issues
Former US president Joe Biden<\/a> \u2019s prostate cancer has spread to other parts of his body and is causing him pain, even as he continues to speak out on public issues, his son Hunter<\/a> said in an interview.
In a wide-ranging interview with the BBC broadcast late on Friday, Hunter Biden<\/a> grew emotional as he discussed his father\u2019s condition, describing it as very sad to watch.
\u201cThe cancer has spread, metastasized into his bones and further,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s very painful and it\u2019s very debilitating in many respects.\u201d
Joe Biden, 83, was the oldest man to serve as US president and his age was a source of concern for much of his four years in office. He and his White House advisers have faced intense criticism for allegedly concealing the extent of his problems, especially after he was forced to abandon his bid for re-election after a disastrous debate with his eventual successor, Donald Trump.
The former president revealed his cancer diagnosis in May of last year, less than four months after he left the White House.
Hunter Biden said the diagnosis had been tough on the family.
\u201cIt\u2019s really sad to watch,\u201d Biden said. \u201cThe only thing that I\u2019d say about my dad, about his health right now, is I wish he would complain more, because it\u2019s not good.\u201d
But Biden said his father remains \u201cout there\u201d, speaking publicly about the issues that are important to him.
\u201cHe\u2019s still doing his thing,\u201d he said. \u201cHe so believes in this country.\u201d
Biden also expressed gratitude for the pardon his father granted him because if he had not, Trump would have sought retribution against him, he said. But he also acknowledged that it was not good for the former president\u2019s legacy or the American people.
\u201cIt is something that is easily criticized and for good reason,\u201d Biden said. \u201cAll I know is that I\u2019m grateful he did it for me, and all I can say to anybody out there is, what would you have thought of my dad if he did not do that for me?\u201d
