It also warned of flight disruptions and security risks as the conflict with Iran appeared to be escalating.<br \/>Trump earlier threatened Iran with additional attacks, saying Friday that the U.S. will be \u201chitting them very hard,\u201d while Iran has<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/world\/iran\/us-heavy-wave-strikes-iran-war-attack-trump-saudi-egypt-drone-oil-rcna589967\" target=\"_blank\"> vowed to \u201cpunish\u201d<\/a> the U.S. and both nations traded what some U.S. officials described as \u201cheavy\u201d strikes.<br \/>Responding to Trump\u2019s announcement, Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., told \u201cMeet the Press\u201d Sunday that the president should not trust Iran\u2019s word.<br \/>Asked why a fresh deal would be different when the memorandum of understanding signed in June failed, he told moderator Kristen Welker: \u201cWell, it may not be.\u201d<br \/>\u201cWe only have three choices: escalate, retreat and come home, or maintain the status quo. I would maintain the status quo as long as I could,\u201d he said.<br \/>Iran\u2019s acting minister of defense, Majid Ibn al-Reza, meanwhile said that U.S. remarks should be viewed as \u201cpsychological and cognitive warfare.\u201d<br \/>He said on X that the threat of further strikes would be taken \u201cas the basis for increasing readiness, strengthening deterrence, and enhancing our own power.\u201d<br \/>Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman, a key regional player, spoke with Trump by phone Saturday. According to the Saudi state news agency, he told him that dialogue was needed to de-escalate Middle East tensions, and expressed concerns over plans for new strikes against Iran.<br \/>The State Department issued fresh security guidance Saturday for Americans in the region.<br \/>\u201cAmericans currently in the Middle East should exercise caution and heightened vigilance and should be prepared for flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures, and potential travel disruptions,\u201d the State Department <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TravelGov\/status\/2083542278857998503?s=20\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a>. \u201cSome airlines in the region have postponed resumption of earlier flight schedules; others have cancelled some routes. Americans in the region should consider departing, or be prepared to depart should there be escalation.\u201d<br \/>The State Department also urged Americans to reconsider travel bans to or through the region.<br \/>The warning was distributed through U.S. embassies in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.<br \/>The agency posted <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TravelGov\/status\/2080682834281615746?s=20\" target=\"_blank\">a nearly identical statement <\/a>earlier this month, but that bulletin did not urge Americans to prepare to leave the Middle East or to reconsider upcoming trips, reflecting Washington\u2019s growing concern that the conflict could widen.<br \/>On Saturday, the <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/kuwaitarmyghq\/status\/2083438806502408373?s=46&#038;t=tVc4Vo-omv6F2hrEpddh9g\" target=\"_blank\">Kuwait Army said<\/a> its air defense systems intercepted drone attacks from Iran.<br \/>\u201cKuwaiti air defenses are currently engaging hostile drone attacks following the Iranian aggression.
