He confirmed  that friends found his body Saturday.<br \/>A cause of death was not provided.<br \/>\u201cTo the world, he will always be remembered as the unforgettable \u2018Big Pussy,\u2019\u201d he said, using the nickname of Pastore\u2019s \u201cSopranos\u201d character, Salvatore Bonpensiero, \u201cbut to those of us who knew him, he was so much more.\u201d<br \/>A longtime actor who plied his trade within the sordid and violent  narratives of the Italian American mob, Pastore became a household face in 1999 when he was cast cast as Bonpensiero, mob boss Tony Soprano\u2019s best friend, a family enforcer and ultimately an FBI informant who threatened to upend the New Jersey mob\u2019s enterprise on the acclaimed drama.<br \/>He was born in the Bronx, grew up in New Rochelle, New York, served in the U.S. Navy, and attended Pace University, according to an IMDb biography.<br \/>He has said he worked in the nightclub industry. But he also tried acting, and after befriending Matt Dillon and Kevin Dillon he decided to dive in, he said during a 2015 appearance on \u201cGood Day New York.\u201d<br \/>According to his bio at the website for HB Studio, where he was an instructor, one of Pastore\u2019s breakthroughs as an actor was in director Nancy Savoca\u2019s Bronx comedy \u201cTrue Love.\u201d<br \/>He also appeared on television\u2019s \u201cLaw &#038; Order\u201d and as an extra in director Martin Scorsese\u2019s 1990 mob classic \u201cGoodfellas.\u201d He appeared in a string of mob narratives on New York City stages and on the big screen.<br \/>Pastore became a staple in films and television dramas about organized crime, including a role in \u201cOnce Upon a Time in Brooklyn.\u201d But it was \u201cThe Sopranos\u2019\u201d six-season run that made him a true star.<br \/>\u201cHis portrayal of the complex and lovable mobster earned him widespread recognition and praise,\u201d said the Bronx Walk of Fame, which inducted the actor in 2016. \u201cPastore\u2019s ability to bring depth and authenticity to his character contributed to the show\u2019s success and solidified his place in television history.\u201d<br \/>The character\u2019s nickname, Big Pussy, is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hbomax.com\/shows\/sopranos\/818c3d9d-1831-48a6-9583-0364a7f98453\/cast-and-crew\/sal-big-pussy-bonpensiero\" target=\"_blank\">rumored to have <\/a>originated during his time as a cat burglar. It distinguished him from another character, Little Pussy Malanga.<br \/>The actor also had a musical side and performed with bands, including fronting Gangster Squad, a band familiar to small venues in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The band\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/GangsterSquadNYC\/\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook group<\/a> says it specialized in \u201ca mixture of classic hits from all different music genres, Rhythm and Blues, Rock &#038; Roll, Funk, Soul, and Reggae.\u201d<br \/>One of his most difficult gigs in the entertainment industry was during his brief 2007 stint on television\u2019s \u201cDancing With the Stars,\u201d where he lasted one week.<br \/>He said at the time that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/popculture\/pastore-drops-out-dancing-stars-wbna17384199\" target=\"_blank\">training was too difficult<\/a>.<br \/>Pastore founded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.renegadetheatrenyc.com\/about\" target=\"_blank\">Renegade Theater NYC<\/a> with fellow \u201cSopranos\u201d actor Maureen Van Zandt, wife of Steven Van Zandt, according to HB Studio. His Renegade Theater bio says he wrote \u201cCrazy Horse,\u201d describing it as \u201ca hit play based on the story of his life as a Rock and Roll club owner.\u201d<br \/>Musician and \u201cSopranos\u201d castmate Steven Van Zandt memorialized Pastore <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/StevieVanZandt\/status\/2083725925858890154\" target=\"_blank\">on social media<\/a>, calling him \u201canother irreplaceable brother\u201d who has died. <br \/>\u201cIt never gets any easier,\u201d he said. \u201cTravel well Vincenzo.\u201d<br \/>Speaking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/Dbg1eWLhaMv\/\" target=\"_blank\">on Instagram,<\/a> \u201cSopranos\u201d costar Michael Imperioli\u200b reminisced about traveling with Pastore in the United States, Italy, and Australia.<br \/>\u201cLots of good times,\u201d he said. \u201cLots of laughs. Vinny was a kind hearted brother who cared deeply about his family and friends. I will miss him always.\u201d<br \/>Lorraine Bracco, who played Tony Soprano\u2019s psychiatrist on the HBO drama, said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/stories\/braccoabroad\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\">on the same platform<\/a> that Pastore was \u201ca beautiful soul.\u201d<br \/>\u201cAbsolutely heartbreaking,\u201d she said.<br \/>Attermann said he represented Pastore for more than 30 years \u2014 long before his HBO fame.<br \/>\u201cVinny was one of the kindest, most generous people I have ever known,\u201d he said. \u201cHe treated everyone with warmth and respect, never turning down a fan who wanted a photograph or an autograph.
