The Pentagon said its Friday strikes were \u201cin direct response\u201d to Iran\u2019s \u201caggression against commercial shipping.\u201d It said that after the strikes, \u201cIran was given a chance to honor the ceasefire agreement but elected not to.\u201d<br \/>A statement Saturday said Iran responded by hitting \u201ctargets linked to the American aggressor forces\u201d in the region, criticizing Gulf states whose territory has been used \u201cto carry out hostile actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran.\u201d <br \/>On Saturday evening, U.S. Central Command launched another wave a retaliatory strikes, saying it attacked multiple targets in Iran at President Donald Trump\u2019s direction.<br \/>Trump said in <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116824603632739697\" target=\"_blank\">a Truth Social post<\/a> Saturday evening that U.S. aircraft struck Iranian missile and drone storage locations and coastal radar sites \u201cfor violating the Cease Fire Agreement, AGAIN!\u201d<br \/>The president threatened that if Iran doesn\u2019t \u201clearn,\u201d the U.S. \u201cwill be forced to militarily complete the job that we successfully started\u201d and that \u201cthe Islamic Republic of Iran will no longer exist!\u201d<br \/>Iran confirmed on Saturday evening that it launched ballistic missiles and drones at eight infrastructure targets at U.S. military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain earlier in the day,<strong> <\/strong>according to Iran\u2019s semi-official Fars news agency.<strong> <\/strong><br \/>Iran\u2019s Revolutionary Guard Corps<strong> <\/strong>Navy Command said in a statement Saturday that American forces \u201cwill experience hell in these coming days,\u201d according to Fars.<br \/>Bahrain, which hosts the U.S. Navy\u2019s 5th Fleet, on Saturday condemned what it said was an Iranian drone attack on its territory, calling the strike a flagrant violation of its sovereignty and \u201ca blatant threat to the security of its citizens and residents.\u201d<br \/>Iran, which had been angered by ships transiting through the strait outside of a route through Iranian waters specified by Tehran, shot at least four drones at ships traveling through the strait on Thursday, Trump said on <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116817203281419093\">Truth Social<\/a> Friday morning. One of those hit the upper deck of a cargo-carrying ship, and the U.S. \u201cknocked down\u201d the three other drones, he said. <br \/>The ship that was struck was the M\/V Ever Lovely, a Singapore-flagged cargo ship exiting the Strait of Hormuz along the Omani coast, according to U.S. Central Command. There were no injuries, and the ship remained operational despite some damage, according to the shipping company and Singaporean port officials.<br \/>\u201cObviously, this is a foolish violation of our Ceasefire Agreement,\u201d Trump said.<br \/>\u201cThe unwarranted aggression against commercial shipping by Iranian forces clearly violated the ceasefire,\u201d Central Command said Friday. \u201cFurthermore, Iran\u2019s dangerous behavior undermined freedom of navigation as commerce increasingly flows through the vital international trade corridor.\u201d<br \/>In its statement Saturday evening, the IRGC said it would be dealing with vessels it claims violated its approved route \u201cstronger than before.\u201d<br \/>On both sides, tempers have frayed over the latest exchanges. \u201cThe U.S. attacked Iran in the middle of negotiations once again,\u201d Ebrahim Azizi, head of the national security commission of the parliament, said on X. \u201cThe failed U.S. President has shown he has no commitment to the principles of negotiation or a ceasefire.\u201d<br \/>Iran also accused the U.S. of violating Article 1 of the memorandum of understanding, which calls for \u201cthe permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.\u201d<br \/>Limited fighting has continued between Israeli forces and the Iranian-backed Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, despite multiple attempts to broker a ceasefire. A fresh agreement between Israel and Lebanon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/world\/israel\/israel-lebanon-sign-framework-agreement-us-first-step-peace-rubio-says-rcna351973\" target=\"_blank\">was signed in the U.S. on Friday.<\/a><br \/>Mohsen Rezaei, a senior official and former commander of the Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps, said the U.S., through its support of Israel, had violated the deal.<br \/>\u201cThe response to the violation of any article of the memorandum of understanding will be swift and decisive,\u201d he said on X.<br \/>Vice President JD Vance, who has been tapped to play a lead role in ongoing U.S.-Iran negotiations, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JDVance\/status\/2070630231023792362\" target=\"_blank\">said Friday on X<\/a>: \u201cIf they have disagreements about how the MOU is being applied, they can pick up the phone. But violence will be met with violence.\u201d<br \/>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/world\/iran\/strait-hormuz-reopen-us-lift-iran-sanctions-14-point-deal-seeking-end-rcna350513\" target=\"_blank\">memorandum of understanding<\/a> was signed just last week, and stipulates that the Strait of Hormuz \u2014 a vital waterway through which some 20% of the world\u2019s oil passed before the war\u00a0\u2014 will reopen and that Iran agrees to allow safe passage of commercial vessels with no charge for 60 days.<br \/>The strait has been a point of contention between the U.S. and Iran in the war, with Iran seeking to maintain leverage over the waterway, and American and global officials insisting transit should be free. Instead of following Tehran\u2019s specified route through the strait, some vessels have been traversing along a route that avoids Iranian waters and instead hugs the coastline of the United Arab Emirates and bends along Oman\u2019s Musandam Peninsula.<br \/>The International Maritime Organization (IMO), the U.N.\u2019s maritime agency, had coordinated the alternative route but has since paused its efforts.
