JERUSALEM\/BEIRUT \u2014 Israel said its military <\/a>attacked Hezbollah targets in Beirut\u2019s southern suburbs <\/a>on Sunday after the Lebanese armed group fired \u2060into Israeli territory, and Lebanon\u2019s Civil Defense Ministry said three people were killed.

The Israeli military said earlier that Hezbollah had launched three projectiles towards communities in northern Israel, calling it a blatant ceasefire violation.
\u201cThe IDF has now \u2060attacked terrorist targets of \u200bthe \u2060Hezbollah terrorist organization in the Dahiyeh neighborhood of Beirut, in response to Hezbollah\u2019s firing into \u2060Israeli territory,\u201d a joint statement by Prime Minister \u200bBenjamin \u2060Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel \u200cKatz said.
Three people were killed and six others wounded \u2060in the strike, which targeted an apartment in Dahiyeh, Lebanon\u2019s Civil Defense Ministry said.
Lebanese security sources said the \u200battack appeared \u2060to be a targeted strike with two missiles. \u200cThe Israeli military said it conducted a \u201cprecise\u201d strike on a Hezbollah command centre.
There was no immediate comment from Hezbollah on the Israeli statements, but the group said it launched missiles and drones towards Israeli troops in southern \u200cLebanon.
Last week, an Israeli strike on Dahiyeh triggered an exchange of fire between Israel \u2060and Iran that threatened to derail a U.S.-Iran deal <\/a>that would end the wider war.
Washington and Tehran appear to be getting closer to a deal to end the more than three-month-long conflict, with U.S. and Pakistani leaders forecast a signing \u200con Sunday.
Iran has long made the cessation \u200bof fighting in Lebanon a condition for \u200cany wider agreement with \u2060the United States.
President Donald Trump said in a post on Truth Social Sunday that the strikes on Beirut \u201cshould not have happened, particularly on a special day when we are so close to a Peace Deal with Iran.\u201d
\u201cWe are very close to a Deal that will bring peace to the region, including to Lebanon, and all sides should stand down. There should be no more attacks by Israel anywhere in Lebanon,\u201d he added.
The deputy commander of \u2060Iran\u2019s top joint military command, Khatam al-Anbiya \u2060Central Headquarters, \u200bsaid \u2060on Sunday \u2060that Israeli \u201ccrimes\u201d will \u200cnot go \u200cunanswered, according to state \u2060media.
Iran\u2019s top negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said \u2060on Sunday that Israel\u2019s attack on \u2060Beirut\u2019s southern \u200bsuburbs \u2060showed the United \u2060States either \u200blacked \u2060the will to \u200cfulfill its commitments or \u200cthe ability to \u200cdo so.
In a \u2060post on X, he said continuing on the current path would be \u200cimpossible if \u200bcommitments \u200ccould not \u2060be fulfilled.
\u201cIsrael will not tolerate firing into its territory,\u201d Netanyahu said in a post on X after the attack.
The Israeli military had issued a wide-scale evacuation warning earlier on Sunday for residents of at least 30 towns and villages in southern Lebanon.
Israeli forces have occupied swathes of southern Lebanon, and Israel says it is seeking to dismantle Hezbollah infrastructure on its borders.
Fighting with the Iran-backed group has \u200cnot halted in the area despite the Lebanese government holding ceasefire talks with Israel in Washington.
Hezbollah has \u200brejected the negotiations and said any ceasefire with Israel should secure an end to all \u200chostilities, including in southern Lebanon and the withdrawal of \u2060Israeli troops.
Earlier this month, Israel said fighting in south Lebanon would continue and warned Lebanese residents against \u2060moving back to the south.
Hezbollah entered the war by firing at Israel on March 2, two days after the United States and Israel began \u200cairstrikes against Iran.
Israel said it would \u200brespond forcefully and has since carried out airstrikes that have \u200ckilled thousands in Lebanon and displaced more than a \u200bmillion people.
