Photos taken by Reuters from the top of the Washington Monument clearly show the numbers \u201c8\u201d and \u201c7\u201d, while the numbers \u201c6\u201d and \u201c4\u201d are more faintly visible.<br \/>&#8220;The cause of the discoloration has not yet been determined,&#8221; Park Police said in a <a href=https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/someone-is-marking-huge-8647-into-grounds-national-mall-dc-2026-06-11\/ target=_blank rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-t-l=:b|z|k|\u2691u class=gnt_ar_b_a>statement to Reuters<\/a>. &#8220;Grass samples have been collected for testing.
