This year’s best midsize SUV for off-roading is none other than the Ford Bronco, according to the list of Best Adventure Vehicles<\/a> compiled by U.S. News & World Report. The Bronco is an SUV that officially returned as a 2021 model year after a 25-year hiatus.
Ford’s midsize SUV is best-known for its rugged design and the off-road capability of some of its trims. All midsize Bronco SUVs have plenty of ground clearance, according to U.S. News.
Ground clearance is important for off-road vehicles because it helps them avoid severe undercarriage damage. Some trims and packages get off-roading upgrades like massive all-terrain tires and a suspension system designed for tricky terrain.
The 2026 Ford Bronco starts at $38,552. It comes in seven different trims including two-door and four-door models and different powertrain options.
The Bronco Base uses a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder engine to produce 300 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque (with Premium fuel). It achieves 19 miles per gallon in the city and 20 miles per gallon on the highway.
The best Bronco trim for the money depends on your preference. Ford has an available Sasquatch off-road equipment package for several trims including the most affordable Base trim that comes with a high clearance suspension, Bilstein shock absorbers and 35.0-inch rugged terrain tires.
The Sasquatch off-road package tacks on an additional $8,460 to the Base trim, bringing its price closer to $52,000. If you aren’t looking for serious off-road capability, models like the Base and Big Bend trims are well-equipped for daily driving needs.
If you’re after off-roading features, models like the Badlands ($45,486) come standard with Rock Crawl and Sand modes that make adjustments to optimize performance. The Badlands trim also comes with a front stabilizer bar disconnect for better wheel articulation.
Ford’s Bronco midsize SUV is for made for buyers who want a daily driver that has the potential to double as a capable off-road SUV for outdoor adventures. It’s nostalgic for fans of the original nameplate, but its second coming brings modern tech to a classic adventurer body style.
Like the Jeep Wrangler<\/a>, the Ford Bronco is made specifically for drivers who want a rugged and capable vehicle. Its many trims and configurations make it easily customizable straight from the factory.
