A man was barricaded with an unknown number of hostages Tuesday at a California building where police had received reports of a bomb threat.

\u201cSeveral community members\u201d were inside the location in downtown Bakersfield, police spokesperson Sally Selby said in a statement, adding that crisis negotiators were working to resolve the situation peacefully.
In an update on X shortly after 9 p.m. local time, police said a second hostage was released. They\u2019d reported the first hostage release a little before 5 p.m.
No injuries have been reported, Selby said, adding that members of the Bakersfield Police Department\u2019s Crisis Negotiation Team were communicating with the barricaded man.
Police Sgt. Eric Celedon said earlier that both the department\u2019s crisis negotiators and negotiators with the FBI had secured a hostage release and that the remaining hostages were \u201cin good health.\u201d
Police identified the location as the \u201cChase Bank building,\u201d but a Chase spokesperson said Tuesday night that the branch there was empty and not involved in the standoff. The building houses unrelated offices, as well as a Chase bank, which has predominant branding at the location.
Officers responded about 1 p.m. to the building in the 1500 block of 17th Street after authorities got reports of a bomb threat, the police department said.
After police arrived and established a perimeter, some of those in the building were able to get away, Selby said.
The area around the building was evacuated, and roads were closed until further notice. In an Instagram video, Celedon <\/a>urged people to stay away.
\u201cThere\u2019s a very active scene,\u201d Celedon said. \u201cIf you\u2019re in the area, please leave.\u201d
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives\u2019 San Francisco field office said resources were being sent to Bakersfield.
Mayor Karen Goh said she was monitoring the situation and asked the community to keep those involved in their prayers.
\u201cI appreciate the collaboration and coordinated efforts of our law enforcement partners and other responding agencies,\u201d she said.
A California spokesperson for JPMorganChase said in an earlier statement that the company\u2019s focus is \u201con the safety of everyone involved\u201d and that it was working with law enforcement.
In a subsequent statement, another spokesperson, Meghan Durant, said the standoff did not involve the Chase Bank branch in the building, which also houses a substance abuse facility and a county child development center.
\u201cWe are aware of the ongoing situation occurring at the building where our branch is located on the ground floor,\u201d she said. \u201cThe branch is currently empty, and we are working with authorities.\u201d
Bakersfield, a city of 422,000, is about 113 miles north of Los Angeles on the southern edge of California\u2019s San Joaquin Valley, an agricultural hub.
