Peabo Bryson, Grammy-winning R&B singer known for his duets \u201cBeauty and the Beast\u201d and \u201cWhole New World,\u201d has died, his family confirmed to TODAY.com.
Bryson \u201ctransitioned peacefully\u201d on Tuesday, June 2, his family shared, adding that he was \u201csurrounded by the love of his family and those closest to him.\u201d
\u201cWe are tremendously moved by the outpouring of love, prayers and support from fans, friends, and colleagues around the world,\u201d the family shared. \u201cWhile our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing how deeply Peabo was loved and how many lives were touched by his voice and his generous spirit. His legacy and music will live on for generations to come.\u201d
Bryson\u2019s family did not share his cause of death.
However, a representative for the musician confirmed to TODAY.com that Bryson suffered a stroke on Thursday, May 28. Following the stroke, he remained under medical care until his passing.
Throughout his career, Bryson entertained audiences with songs like \u201cFeel the Fire,\u201d \u201cI\u2019m So Into You,\u201d \u201cCan You Stop the Rain,\u201d \u201cIf Ever You\u2019re In My Arms Again\u201d and \u201cReaching for the Sky\u201d among many others.
He earned his first Grammy<\/a> in 1993 in the best pop performance by a duo or group with vocal category alongside Celine Dion for \u201cBeauty and the Beast.\u201d The following year, he and Regina Belle won the same award for \u201cA Whole New World.\u201d
The family asked for privacy during this time \u201cas they mourn the loss of a beloved husband, father, family member, friend and artist whose impact extended far beyond the stage.\u201d
