WASHINGTON \u2014 The Department of Homeland Security is quietly rolling back some of its controversial immigration enforcement policies, according to two senior DHS officials and two immigration attorneys who have seen the changes firsthand.

Democrats are celebrating after\u00a0Virginia approved a redistricting plan<\/a>\u00a0that could help their party net up to four additional congressional seats in the race for control of the House. Former Vice President Mike Pence said in an MS Now interview that aired yesterday that Trump was “right” to delete an AI image that appeared to depict him as a Christ-like figure.
“I found the language and the images offensive,” Pence said. “I think the president was\u00a0right to take that one image down.”
The image, which the president posted last week, had prompted a rare swell<\/a> of criticism from the right. After deleting it, Trump said he thought it depicted him as a doctor.
Pence also weighed in on Trump’s feud with Pope Leo<\/a>, saying he welcomes that the disagreement “has abated to a degree.”
“I think the pope has every right to express himself in a manner that he believes is consistent with the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the president has every right to express his view and his agenda for the American people,” he said. “And I think, I think if I was advising him, as I did every day for four-and-a-half years, I\u2019d say, let the pope be the pope, and you\u2019d be the president.”

Sen. Ben Ray Luj\u00e1n, D-N.M., plans to introduce a bill to provide pay and a bonus to Transportation Security Administration personnel as the Department of Homeland Security shutdown continues, according to a fact sheet shared with NBC News.
The fact sheet says that the bill would set the base pay rate for TSA staff at $40,000 and ensure that they continue to receive pay despite what has become a record-long shutdown. It would also provide a $10,000 bonus to TSA personnel who have worked during the lapse in DHS funding.
About six weeks after the shutdown began, Trump directed DHS to pay TSA workers, and shortly after told the department to pay all of its employees.<\/a>
Democratic lawmakers have offered up similar bills to try to fund TSA and other individual agencies during the shutdown amid the impasse with the Republican majority over the Democrats’ proposed overhaul of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., also introduced a bill <\/a>in March to provide a bonus to TSA officers when the shutdown ends.
“Every day, TSA agents show up to work to protect travelers and make our country safer,” Luj\u00e1n said in a statement shared in the fact sheet. “These hardworking men and women deserve to be properly compensated and shouldn\u2019t miss paychecks in a political shutdown that Republicans created.”
Republicans, meanwhile, have attempted to fund DHS without ICE and Border Patrol funding or the entire department. The Senate GOP advanced a budget resolution <\/a>early this morning that would pave the way to funding the two immigration-related agencies and then separately fund the rest of DHS without Democratic support.
A federal judge yesterday dismissed a defamation lawsuit from\u00a0Laura Loomer<\/a>, ruling in favor of comedian\u00a0Bill Maher<\/a>\u00a0over a comment he made on his show that insinuated the far-right activist had an affair with Trump.
U.S. District Judge James Moody wrote in an 18-page ruling that Maher was clearly joking when he made the comment during a September 2024 episode of HBO\u2019s \u201cReal Time with Bill Maher.\u201d
