Last weekend\u2019s talks, at which Vice President JD Vance led the US delegation, ended without a deal.<br \/>Trump accused Iran of violating a two-week ceasefire that is due to expire on Wednesday by opening fire on Saturday in the Strait of Hormuz. The US president threatened to destroy civilian infrastructure in Iran if it doesn\u2019t accept the terms of the deal being offered by the US.<br \/>\u201cWe\u2019re offering a very fair and reasonable deal, and I hope they take it because, if they don\u2019t, the United States is going to knock out every single power plant, and every single bridge, in Iran,\u201d Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.<br \/>After Trump\u2019s announcement, Iran\u2019s Tasnim News Agency \u2060reported that there is currently no \u2060decision by Iran \u2060to send a negotiating delegation \u200cto Pakistan \u201cas long as there is a naval \u2060blockade\u201d on Iranian ports.<br \/>Later, the state news agency IRNA reported that Tehran rejected the talks.<br \/>\u201cIran stated that its absence from the second round of talks stems from what it called Washington\u2019s excessive demands, unrealistic expectations, constant shifts \u2060in stance, repeated contradictions, and the ongoing naval blockade, which it considers a breach of the ceasefire,\u201d \u2060IRNA wrote.<br \/>Iran\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the US naval blockade is a violation of the ceasefire as well as an \u201cunlawful and criminal\u201d act.<br \/>\u201cThe United States\u2019 so-called \u2018blockade\u2019 of Iran\u2019s ports or coastline is not only a violation of Pakistani-mediated ceasefire but also both unlawful and criminal,\u201d Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei wrote in a post on X.<br \/>\u201cMoreover, by deliberately inflicting collective punishment on the Iranian population, it amounts to war crime and crime against humanity,\u201d Baghaei added.<i><\/i><br \/>Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) navy said on Saturday that the Strait of Hormuz had been closed again, less than 24 hours after it was reopened. It said it would remain closed until the US lifts its naval blockade on Iranian vessels and ports.<br \/>The US military said it has forced 23 ships to turn around near the strait since its blockade began. Its Central Command said forces were continuing to enforce the blockade \u201cagainst ships entering or exiting Iranian ports and coastal areas\u201d.<br \/>The Strait of Hormuz and the future of Iran\u2019s nuclear programme remain key sticking points in the negotiations.<br \/>Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh said that while there was \u201csignificant progress made\u201d during talks last weekend, a framework of understanding has to be agreed before they continue. He also described US demands on Iran\u2019s nuclear programme as \u201cmaximalist\u201d.<br \/>The speaker of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said on Saturday night: \u201cThere are many gaps and some fundamental points remain,\u201d adding, \u201cWe are still far from the final discussion.\u201d<br \/>Trump told reporters at the White House that the US was \u201ctaking a tough stand\u201d and the US and Iran had \u201cvery good conversations going on\u201d. He accused Iran of getting \u201ca little cute\u201d on the subject of the strait, adding that the US would not be \u201cblackmailed\u201d.<br \/>The president told ABC News on Sunday that Vance will not lead the next round of talks after reports that he would, saying his absence was \u201conly because of security\u201d.<br \/>Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spoke on the phone on Sunday. Pakistan\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said they discussed \u201cthe need for continued dialogue and engagement as essential to resolving the current issues as soon as possible\u201d.
