The president has since deleted the post, which also followed a lengthy tirade<\/a> about Pope Leo XIV<\/a> on the site the same day in which he called him \u201cweak on crime\u201d while also suggesting he should \u201cstop catering to the radical left\u201d.
Trump made the comments after Leo suggested over the weekend that a \u201cdelusion of omnipotence\u201d<\/a> was fuelling the US-Israel war on Iran. Pope Leo later said he did not fear the Trump administration and would continue to speak out against war.
Trump faced the wrath of some of his most high-profile and loyal supporters, some of whom called his post \u201cdisgusting\u201d and \u201cOUTRAGEOUS blasphemy\u201d, urging the president to \u201cask for forgiveness from the American people and then from God\u201d.
The fact that Trump deleted the post is noteworthy, since he rarely walks back anything he blasts out on social media, such as his Easter Sunday post yelling<\/a> at Iran to \u201copen the Fuckin\u2019 Strait [of Hormuz], you crazy bastards\u201d and praising \u201cAllah\u201d.
When reporters asked Trump whether he posted a picture depicting himself as Jesus Christ, Trump said \u201cit wasn\u2019t a depiction, it was me\u201d, though he insisted<\/a>: \u201cIt\u2019s supposed to be me as a doctor making people better.\u201d
