It will just open up naturally," he said.<br \/>But Anne-Sophie Corbeau, former head of gas analysis at oil giant BP, suggested it could take some time for flows to return to normal.<br \/>The Gulf's energy infrastructure has been damaged following strikes by Iran, Israel and the US and Corbeau said repairing it could take between three and five years. <br \/>Corbeau, who is now at Center on Global Energy Policy at Colombia, told the BBC's Today programme that disruption to traffic through the Strait of Hormuz was likely to persist and that additional costs in the form of fees to use the strait could be "quite substantial".<br \/>She said currently she understood ships were subject to a charge in the region of $2m for using the strait, which, if made permanent amounted to "the worst-case solution" for users of the waterway.<br \/>In the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq were all more than 1% lower in early morning trade. <br \/>In the UK, the FTSE 100 index fell 0.5% in early afternoon trade. France's Cac index fell by 1.3% and Germany's Dax extended earlier falls to drop by 2.3%.<br \/>In Asia, major stock indexes fell after Trump's address, reversing earlier gains.<br \/>Japan's Nikkei 225 closed down 2.4% and South Korea's Kospi ended 4.5% lower.<br \/>The region's stock markets have been volatile since the Iran war began.<br \/>Asia is particularly vulnerable to the impact of the conflict as it is heavily reliant on the Middle East for its energy supplies.<br \/>Copyright 2026 BBC.
