NBC host says returning is \u2018part of my purpose\u2019 nearly two months after her mother Nancy\u2019s apparent abduction
After a two-month absence sparked by her 84-year-old mother\u2019s apparent abduction<\/a>, Savannah Guthrie will return to NBC\u2019s Today show next month, saying in an interview that aired on Friday: \u201cJoy will be my protest.\u201d
Hoda Kotb said after her emotional interview<\/a> with her former co-host aired<\/a> that Guthrie will return on 6 April. Guthrie said it was hard to imagine returning to a place of joy and lightness. While she doesn\u2019t know if she can do it or if she will belong any more, Guthrie said she wants to try.
\u201cI can\u2019t come back and try to be something that I\u2019m not. But I can\u2019t not come back, because it\u2019s my family,\u201d Guthrie said. \u201cI think it\u2019s part of my purpose right now. I want to smile and when I do, it will be real and my joy will be my protest.\u201d
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing<\/a> on 1 February. Authorities believe she was kidnapped, abducted or otherwise taken against her will. The FBI released surveillance videos of a masked man<\/a> who was outside Guthrie\u2019s front door in Tucson on the night she vanished. The Guthrie family has offered<\/a> a $1m reward for information leading to the recovery of their mother.
In another part of the interview with Kotb that aired on Thursday, Guthrie shared that she and her siblings knew that their mother\u2019s disappearance wasn\u2019t a case of a person wandering off, given the pain she was living with and knowing that doors at her home were propped open, blood was found on the front doorstep and a camera had been yanked off.
She said they knew something was very wrong and her brother knew immediately that their mother had been kidnapped for ransom<\/a>. While she said some of the purported ransom notes<\/a> were fake, Guthrie said she believed the two that she and her siblings responded<\/a> to<\/a> were real.
In the portion of the interview that aired on Friday, Guthrie appealed again for information, saying her family needed answers and someone has the power to help.
\u201cHow can someone vanish without a trace?\u201d Guthrie asked in the interview. \u201cHow? Someone knows something \u2026 We can\u2019t be in peace. We can\u2019t go forward. We have to know what happened to her.\u201d<\/p>\n
