Golf superstar Tiger Woods was arrested and charged with driving under the influence Friday afternoon after he was involved in a rollover crash, Florida authorities said.
The crash happened shortly before 2 p.m. in Jupiter Island, the Martin County Sheriff\u2019s Office said.
There were no injuries in the crash, which also involved a truck pulling a trailer.
According to law enforcement officials, Woods, 50, was driving a dark Land Rover and clipped the truck.
The driver of the truck told officials that he was starting to turn into a driveway off a two-lane road when he looked in his mirror and saw Woods driving “at high speeds,” officials said Friday evening.
When the truck’s driver tried to get off the road, the Land Rover “overtook” the truck at the last minute, swerved to avoid a crash but ultimately clipped the back of the trailer.
Woods’ SUV rolled on the driver\u2019s side door. The golfer climbed out of the window, officials said.
Neither Woods nor the truck driver were injured.
Responding law enforcement officers suspected Woods was impaired. He submitted to a breath test, but refused to do a urine test, officials said. He told officers he had taken medication for prior injuries, officials said.
He was arrested at the scene and taken to a local jail.
The golf star is also facing one charge of refusing to take a test, officials said.
Earlier in the week, Woods played in a match Tuesday in the finals for Tomorrow\u2019s Golf League, where his team, Jupiter Links Golf Club, lost to the Los Angeles Golf Club.
In 2021, the golfer was injured in a rollover crash in Rolling Hills Estates in Southern California<\/a>. Authorities said he was driving at least twice the speed limit in a 45 mph zone when his Genesis GV80 SUV struck a tree, causing the vehicle to fly through the air and land on its side.
Woods suffered serious injuries in that previous crash.
Officials said at the time there were no signs of impairment, although that finding caused some backlash. Investigators came under scrutiny for failing to get a search warrant for the golfer\u2019s blood samples, which could have detected any evidence of alcohol or drugs.
Woods was not charged in that 2021 crash.
The athlete had previously checked himself into a clinic in 2017 for prescription medication following an arrest that year for driving under the influence in Florida<\/a>.
