When police responded, they found evidence of a shooting including shell casings and damage to the outside of the building.
There were people inside the consulate at the time of the shooting, but nobody was injured because of its “highly secured, highly fortified” construction, Barredo said. There was damage to the glass and door of the building, Toronto Police Service said in a statement.
According to a witness account, a white Honda CR-V pulled up outside the consulate and two males exited, fired a handgun at the building, got back into the car and left the scene, Barredo said. Anyone with information about the suspects or relevant dash camera footage is asked to contact Toronto police.
“We appreciate and understand the concern, how unsettling this is, how disturbing it is and how angry it may make some citizens,” Barredo said.
Chief Superintendent Chris Leather with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said the shooting is being investigated as a “national security incident.”
“The shots fired toward the United States Consulate in Toronto early this morning are a reprehensible act of violence and attempt at intimidation. The RCMP is working with local authorities and communicating with the FBI in the United States and the consulate in its investigation.
Investigators are looking into potential motives for the shooting, Leather said. Asked if police are looking into any connection to recent shootings at synagogues in Toronto, Barredo said all potential connections will be explored. Toronto police released an image of the white Honda, which they said drove away from the scene southbound on University Avenue.
This story has been updated to add new information.

source

Police in Toronto, Canada, are investigating after shots were fired at the U.S. Consulate building early the morning of March 10 in what authorities are calling a “national security incident.”The shooting unfolded at about 4:30 a.m. on March 10, and a police officer was flagged down to respond about an hour later, Toronto Police Service […]

[9

0":"post-203659","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-us","8":"entry
["GET
