Anger has also surfaced in Gulf states <a href=\"\/news\/2026\/2\/28\/multiple-gulf-arab-states-that-host-us-assets-targeted-in-iran-retaliation\">caught up in the conflict<\/a>, as Iran launches retaliatory missile strikes against US military assets hosted on their soil.<br \/>Here is a breakdown of how countries and institutions are responding:<br \/><strong>United States<\/strong><br \/>President Donald Trump announced that the US was engaged in a \u201cmajor combat operation\u201d aimed at \u201celiminating threats from the Iranian regime\u201d on Saturday morning, as missiles hit numerous areas in Tehran and across the country. Trump <a href=\"\/news\/2026\/2\/28\/trump-talks-of-annihilation-elimination-as-us-israel-attack-iran\">pledged to raze Iran\u2019s missile industry<\/a> and destroy its navy, while urging the Iranian people to overthrow the government.<br \/><strong>Israel<\/strong><br \/>A senior Israeli defence official told the Reuters news agency the joint US-Israeli attacks had been planned for months, with a specific date set weeks ago. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed the attacks aimed to remove an \u201cexistential threat\u201d posed by Iran.
