Follow for the latest updates.<br \/>Monday 23 February 2026 19:05, UK<br \/>Thanks for following our live coverage of the winter storm battering parts of the US.<br \/>Over 69 million people remain under winter alerts and blizzard warnings stretch more than 600 miles up the eastern coast of the US.<br \/>New York City has already seen as much as 11 inches of snow in some areas, with officials warning the storm could rank among the city&#8217;s 10 worst in 150 years.<br \/>Scroll back through this page to catch up on the latest.<br \/>New York City&#8217;s mayor has been visiting local administrative services during the snow storm.<br \/>In a post on social media, Zohran Mamdani thanked them for working &#8220;around the clock during this historic blizzard&#8221;.<br \/>Earlier, we told you up to 14 inches of snow had been recorded in New York City &#8211; see our 12.12 post for more.<br \/>More than 5,000 flights in and out of the US have been cancelled as heavy snow causes travel chaos &#8211; something we told you about at 12.09.<br \/>This picture shows would-be travellers walking through the vacant Delta terminal at Logan International Airport in Boston.<br \/>More power outages are being recorded as conditions worsen in several US states.<br \/>There are more than 650,000 customers without power, according to poweroutage.com.<br \/>Here&#8217;s a look at the areas with the most outages:<br \/>As we&#8217;ve been telling you, blizzard warnings have blanketed northeastern parts of the US with up to 14 inches of snow recorded in New York City.<br \/>The lighter colours on this map show the snowfall, with the centre of the storm just to the southeast of New England.<br \/>The most severe conditions are being felt in the region at the moment, particularly in Boston, and it&#8217;s still snowing in New York, New Jersey and Delaware too.<br \/>Roughly 69 million people in the US remain under winter alerts today, according to our US partner network NBC News.<br \/>Blizzard warnings stretch more than 600 miles up the east coast.<br \/>Snowfall totals are approaching two feet across parts of Long Island and New Jersey while a wind gust of 85mph was recorded in Montauk in New York.<br \/>Zohran Mamdani has said the New York City Department of Sanitation is &#8220;working around the clock&#8221; to keep the city moving.<br \/>He added that 2,600 sanitation workers have been deployed across the city, doing 12-hour shifts, while 2,300 snowploughs were being used to clear the snow.<br \/>The mayor has been active on social media throughout recent weather conditions, reporting earlier today that snowfall throughout the city had reached between eight and 15 inches overnight.<br \/>He also reported that wind gusts reached between 40 and 60mph.&nbsp;<br \/>Power outages have swept across the northeastern US with almost 650,000 homes affected, according to PowerOutage.com at 3:32pm UK time.<br \/>That number has risen by roughly half.
