A survey released the following day found a similarly strong level of disapproval. In a CNN poll published Jan. 15, three-quarters of Americans said they opposed the United States attempting to take control of the Arctic island.<br \/>Other surveys this week had similar outcomes, as Trump continues to call for U.S. control of Greenland for what he says are national security concerns.<br \/>Reuters&#8217; two-day poll found some 47% of respondents disapproved of Trump&#8217;s focus on Greenland, and 17% approved. Another 35% said they were unsure.<br \/>Approximately 71% of respondents to the <a href=https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/just-one-five-americans-support-trumps-efforts-acquire-greenland-reutersipsos-2026-01-14\/ target=_blank rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-t-l=:b|z|k|\u2691u class=gnt_ar_b_a>Reuters poll<\/a> said it would be a bad idea for the United States to take possession of Greenland from Denmark, including nine in 10 Democrats and six in 10 Republicans. Only 4%, including one in 10 Republicans and almost no Democrats, said it would be a &#8220;good idea&#8221; for the United States to use military force.<br \/>The poll was conducted online among 1,217 U.S. adults and had a margin of error of\u00a0\u00b13 percentage points.<br \/>In the <a href=https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/01\/15\/politics\/greenland-cnn-poll target=_blank rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-t-l=:b|z|k|\u2691u class=gnt_ar_b_a>CNN poll<\/a>, 25% of Americans said they favored the United States attempting to take control of the resource-rich Danish territory. Broken down along party lines, Democrats were deeply opposed to the move, and 94% were opposed overall, including 80% who said they &#8220;strongly&#8221; opposed it.<br \/>Opinions were more mixed among Republicans, although still not significantly in favor: 50% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents said they supported it and 50% opposed it. About 8 in 10 independents who don\u2019t lean toward either party are also opposed to an intervention.<br \/>The CNN poll was conducted by SSRS online and by phone Jan. 9 through 12 among a random national sample of 1,209 adults. It has a margin of error of \u00b13.1 percentage points.<br \/>Vice President <a href=\/news\/politics\/jd-vance\/ target=_blank rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-t-l=:b|e|k|\u2691u class=gnt_ar_b_a>JD Vance<\/a> and Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with the Danish and\u00a0Greenlandic foreign ministers at the White House on Jan. 14, and the gathering <a href=\/story\/news\/world\/2026\/01\/14\/vance-rubio-meeting-denmark-greenland\/88181293007\/ target=_blank rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-t-l=:b|e|k|\u2691u class=gnt_ar_b_a>ended without substantial steps forward.<\/a> Danish Foreign Minister Lars L\u00f8kke Rasmussen said in a press conference the meeting ended with a &#8220;fundamental disagreement&#8221; with U.S. officials, and that they &#8220;didn\u2019t manage to change the American position.&#8221;<br \/>The Danish government\u00a0<a href=\"\/story\/news\/world\/2026\/01\/14\/denmark-expands-greenland-military-presence\/88176591007\/?tbref=hp\" target=_blank rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-t-l=:b|e|k|\u2691u class=gnt_ar_b_a>announced an<\/a>\u00a0expanded military presence in and around Greenland on Jan. 14 in close cooperation with NATO nations.
