Away from Ukraine’s capital, Zelenskyy has been making his way over the Atlantic for tomorrow’s talks with Trump.
Ahead of the meeting, the Ukrainian reiterated what he wants his country to get from the meeting, declaring that security guarantees are the “most important” detail, while territory and the future of Ukraine’s nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia were “sensitive issues”.
Zelenskyy also made a pit stop in Canada to meet with Mark Carney and hold a call with Ukraine’s allies in Europe. 
Carney condemned Russia’s strikes on Kyiv as acts of “barbarism”, while Antonio Costa, president of the European Council, said the call of Ukraine’s allies served to “coordinate” the group ahead of tomorrow’s Florida talks with Trump.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has thanked Ukraine’s allies following a joint call this evening.
Posting on X, he says the following people were on the call:
Zelenskyy said: “During our call, we discussed our current progress along the diplomatic track. We went over the most important priorities together. Ukraine values all of the support. 
“Tomorrow, after the meeting with President Trump, we will continue our discussion.”

Before we do, we’re looking ahead to tomorrow’s key meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump in Florida.
Here, Sky News analyses the major issues they are likely to discuss as a 20-point peace framework and security guarantee deal appear to be close.
Russian forces have captured one town in the Donetsk region and one in Zaporizhzhia, the Kremlin has said.
In a post on Telegram, the Kremlin said its soldiers had taken the town of Myrnohrad in Donetsk and Huliaipole in Zaporizhzhia.
Both areas are heavily contested and are key to Russia’s territorial ambitions in the east of Ukraine.
Sky News could not independently verify the battlefield reports.
We now have some of the first details of this evening’s call between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Ukraine’s European allies.
Antonio Costa, president of the European Council, said he took part in the call “in order to coordinate ahead of tomorrow’s meeting” between Zelenskyy and Trump in Florida.
He does not go into specific detail other than to say that a “strong and prosperous Ukraine in the EU is a core security guarantee”.
He adds that recent EU decisions have made Ukraine stronger, including the \u20ac90bn interest-free loan and the decision to immobilise Russian sovereign assets for the long term.
As a reminder, Ukraine’s immediate accession to the EU is among the points put forward by Kyiv in its revised 20-point peace plan (see 8am post for more).
It’s just gone 9.30pm in Kyiv and emergency power blackouts are still in place throughout the city.
Despite this, several residents are still making the most of their Saturday evening, with some bars and restaurants open.
As a reminder, Kyiv was the primary target of last night’s Russian air attacks, with authorities reporting at least two people killed and dozens more injured.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy has thanked his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney after today’s meeting between the two leaders in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Canada’s PM condemned the latest series of Russian air attacks on Ukraine as acts of “barbarism” shortly after Zelenskyy arrived.
Posting on Telegram, Ukraine’s president said: “Russia continues to torment our cities and people. Moscow has even rejected proposals for a Christmas ceasefire and is escalating the brutality of missile and drone attacks. 
“This is a clear signal of how they really view diplomacy there. So far, it’s not taken seriously enough.”
As a reminder, Zelenskyy was also due to speak with Ukraine’s European allies this evening – we’ll update you on the outcome of that call if we hear anything. 
Two men in their 60s were injured overnight due to the impact of a Russian drone in the Dnipropetrovsk region, authorities say.
Ukraine’s emergency services said they provided the men with pre-medical assistance and transported them from the dangerous area to an ambulance.
“As a result of the shelling, a transport company, four multi-storey buildings and two private houses were damaged,” it adds.
Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Goncharenko says tomorrow’s meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump “will take us closer to peace”.
Speaking to Sky News, he says peace is needed in Ukraine “as soon as possible” as “it’s time to finish the war”.
“The situation on the battlefield is difficult and hard, but it’s really a stalemate because Russia’s summer offensive failed,” he says.
“They failed to achieve their goals to wipe off Ukraine from the map of the world. Yes, they have some incremental gains now: super incremental, very, very slow, very, very small, really tiny.” 
Goncharenko says the “only problem” is that Vladimir Putin doesn’t seem willing to end hositilies.
“I think only harsh and tough pressure from the United States can make Putin to accept the end of the war.”
