Hospitals are adopting meditation,\u201d he added.&nbsp;<br \/>In times of global challenges, meditation offers a powerful means to cultivate peace,&nbsp;unity&nbsp;and compassion.&nbsp;<br \/>With the aim of raising awareness about the benefits of this practice, the UN&nbsp;General Assembly last year&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.un.org\/A\/RES\/79\/137\" data-mce-href=\"https:\/\/docs.un.org\/A\/RES\/79\/137\">proclaimed<\/a>&nbsp;21 December as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/observances\/meditation-day\" data-mce-href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/observances\/meditation-day\">World Meditation Day<\/a>, reaffirming the right of every person to enjoy the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br \/>Organised&nbsp;by the Permanent Mission of India and the other countries that promoted the establishment of the international day, the event&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sites\/un2.un.org\/files\/2ndworldmeditationday-un.pdf\" data-mce-href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sites\/un2.un.org\/files\/2ndworldmeditationday-un.pdf\">Meditation for Global Peace and Harmony<\/a>\u201d&nbsp;aimed at&nbsp;embracing&nbsp;inner&nbsp;harmony and&nbsp;promoting international unity.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br \/>Meditation&nbsp;has the power to&nbsp;bring&nbsp;those who practice&nbsp;it&nbsp;to a&nbsp;\u201cspace of unified feel, of&nbsp;tranquillity\u2014 that oneness that binds everyone,\u201d&nbsp;said&nbsp;Mr. Shankar, who also led a&nbsp;meditation&nbsp;session at the event.&nbsp;<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/anxiety-disorders\" data-mce-href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/anxiety-disorders\">According to the World Health Organization (WHO)<\/a>, meditation can be a powerful self-care tool to reinforce treatments and improve overall well-being, especially when it comes to anxiety.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br \/>Mr. Shankar noted that today there are 700 research papers showing over 100 benefits of the practice.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br \/>With an emphasis on breathing and presence, incorporating meditation into one\u2019s daily routine, even for just a few minutes, can help achieve a sense of calm and focus.&nbsp;<br \/>Before&nbsp;commencing&nbsp;the meditation session, Mr. Shankar spoke about anger and desire, which&nbsp;grip&nbsp;the mind.&nbsp;<br \/>\u201cThese two things don\u2019t let your mind&nbsp;settle,&nbsp;they don\u2019t even allow you to sleep,\u201d&nbsp;he&nbsp;said.&nbsp;<br \/>Meditation and&nbsp;breathwork&nbsp;can&nbsp;provide relief from&nbsp;those&nbsp;disruptive&nbsp;feelings.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br \/>\u201cOur breath&nbsp;has&nbsp;a secret.&nbsp;The breath&nbsp;links our body and mind.
