A Republican senator has said he would not oppose the public release of a video showing a US military strike on an alleged drug boat that killed two survivors of the initial attack if the Pentagon were to declassify it, adding that it showed \u201cnothing remarkable\u201d.

Eleven people died in the 2 September attack, including two men killed in the follow-up strike as they reportedly clung to wreckage for an hour. That killing has been met with intense scrutiny and accusations of war crimes after the Washington Post reported the defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, gave an order to \u201ckill them all\u201d. Adm Frank Bradley of the US navy, who oversaw the attack, told lawmakers on Thursday there was no such order \u2013 and the Pentagon has defended the legality of the attack.
Arkansas senator Tom Cotton, who backs Donald Trump\u2019s campaign against suspected drug smugglers, was among the officials who were briefed on the strikes.
\u201cI think it\u2019s really important that this video be made public. It\u2019s not lost on anyone, of course, that the interpretation of the video \u2026 broke down precisely on party lines,\u201d said Jim Himes, the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee. He said he had spent \u201cyears looking at videos of lethal action taken, often in the terrorism context, and this video was profoundly shaking\u201d.
Donald Trump<\/a> has said he has no problem releasing the video. But, despite the president\u2019s statement, Hegseth did not commit to doing so on Saturday.
\u201cWe\u2019re reviewing the process, and we\u2019ll see,\u201d he said on Saturday<\/a>, adding that the Pentagon wanted to ensure sensitive information was not compromised.
