One of the major stories of the week surrounding the war in Ukraine has been diplomatic talks between the US and both Kyiv and Washington separately.
After talks in Moscow on Tuesday, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov claims the two sides are making progress with their talks.
Speaking to the Zvezda channel, he also criticises European allies of Ukraine.
He says:
“They [the Europeans] constantly put forward demands that are unacceptable to Moscow… I would say that the Europeans, to put it mildly, are not contributing to achieving a settlement between Washington and Moscow on Ukrainian affairs.”
Ushakov also claims that a meeting between Putin and Trump could take place in the near future.
This is something we’ve repeatedly heard from the Kremlin since the August summit in Alaska, without it manifesting into an actual meeting since.
A Russian seaport in Temryuk has been hit by a Ukrainian drone attack overnight, according to the local emergency centre.
In a statement on Telegram, it says: “There was a fire… Special and emergency services are working on site.”
Russia’s defence ministry says that overnight it intercepted and destroyed 41 Ukrainian drones, including one in Krasnodar Krai.
Russia launches 137 drones at Ukraine<\/b>
Also overnight, Russia launched 137 drones at Ukraine, Kyiv’s air force says.
Around 90 of these were said to be of Shahed-design – Iranian-designed drones that explode on impact.
Ukraine knocked about 80 of these drones out of the sky, but as we reported in our previous post, many attacks took place.

A 12-year-old boy has been killed by a drone attack in Vasylkivska in the Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine, according to local authorities.
The boy’s parents were also injured in the strikes on a residential area, Ukraine’s internal affairs ministry said. 
One house was destroyed and another damaged, the ministry added.
A third person was also injured by a “hostile attack” in Dnipropetrovsk in the Nikopol district, Ukraine’s state emergency services added.

The Russian leader is speaking alongside Narendra Modi before their meeting at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi.
Putin thanks Modi for his attention to peace efforts over the war in Ukraine and says he told the Indian leader about recent talks held with the US.
The Russian president also talked up relations between the two countries, adding:
“Our relations are deeply rooted in history, but it’s not the words that matter, but the substance that is very profound.”
Talks between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vladimir Putin are just beginning.
Ahead of the talks, the two sat down, and both men spoke briefly to the assembled media.
Modi told Putin: “The world should return to peace.”
Modi added that New Delhi supports every effort towards peace and said “we should all pursue peace together”.
Yesterday, Vladimir Putin landed in India for an annual summit held between the two nations.
Today, the Russian president and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are set to hold talks aimed at strengthening relations.
The 23rd Russia-India summit comes as the US is pushing for a Ukraine peace deal after nearly four years of war.
Putin was welcomed by Modi in New Delhi with a hug and a handshake.
AP news agency, citing Indian officials involved in preparing the summit, reports that the agenda for Putin and Modi includes defence, energy and labour mobility.
India has maintained close relations with Russia despite its invasion of Ukraine and was hit with US sanctions this year after it continued to buy oil from the country.
This morning, the Kremlin says it is waiting for a response from the White House and Donald Trump after Ukraine peace talks held between the two countries earlier this week.
On Tuesday, US envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner travelled to the Russian capital to sit down with Putin.
Today, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov tells Russian state news agency RIA:
“We are now waiting for the reaction of our American colleagues to the discussion we had on Tuesday.”
Ushakov adds that there are no plans for a call between Putin and Trump and no date has been set for a new meeting with the US officials.
The US has been holding talks with both Ukraine and Russia in an effort to end the fighting.

Elsewhere, Belgium’s Prime Minister Bart De Wever will meet German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Brussels for talks on EU proposals to use frozen Russian assets to fund a reparations loan for Ukraine, with the former saying yesterday he hoped for “fruitful discussions” on the topic.
