Trump has ordered a massive naval deployment off Venezuela\u2019s northern coast.<br \/><strong>What did Maduro say?<\/strong> He reportedly refused to step down immediately and allegedly made a series of counter-demands, including worldwide immunity from prosecution and being allowed to cede political control but keep control of the armed forces.<br \/><strong>What is the context?<\/strong> The US has undertaken <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/nov\/24\/visual-guide-us-military-presence-caribbean\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">three months of deadly airstrikes<\/a> on alleged drug-smuggling boats that have killed at least 83 people \u2013 attacks the UN and other humanitarian organisations have described as extrajudicial executions.
