America woke up not only to ongoing upheaval around the latest Epstein file release this morning.
Public services are also flickering back to life after they were closed during the longest government shutdown in history.
These pictures show workers arriving for work at the US health department after its employees were ordered back.
Public bins were also emptied on Washington’s National Mall this morning. 
Unlike during the last shutdown in 2018, there were few reports of overflowing bin bags across the country as open-air national park sites remained open and rubbish was collected for those.
Here is a worker cleaning the sidewalk near the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, one of the indoor exhibition spaces due to reopen today.
Sky News chief presenter Mark Austin<\/a><\/b> earlier spoke to Rick Wilson, a former Republican who is now a prominent critic of Donald Trump.
Despite rising pressure to release all Epstein files, Wilson doubts that the US government will do so, as he claims it engages in “a large, systemic cover-up”.
Wilson looks with particular suspicion at the way Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell has been treated, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence for her role in his abuse.
He said:
“We’re seeing that Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanch is sending Ghislaine Maxwell from a medium-security prison where she was placed… to a cushy, minimum security prison in Texas and being given a puppy. 
“This is an administration that’s very dedicated to covering this up… If this [the files] exonerates him [Trump], they would have released it already.”
Both Trump and his administration have emphatically denied any wrongdoing with regard to Epstein.
Still, Wilson says the Epstein files have also divided the MAGA movement “quite significantly”.

Donald and Melania Trump are scheduled to make an appearance in the White House’s East Room imminently.
They will sign an executive order aimed at promoting educational and other opportunities and scholarships for foster children.
But given his inclination to speak his mind, the president may well address the latest Epstein file release, too.

A bipartisan petition forcing the US House to vote on a bill mandating the release of all Epstein files got the necessary signatures yesterday.
The vote will be scheduled for next week, the Republican speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, said last night.
But could this really lead to the release of the remaining files?

Is the bill likely to pass?<\/b>
Republican House leaders have dismissed the bill, potentially fearing damning revelations about Trump.
Democrats alleged that Johnson was long avoiding swearing in their new representative-elect Adelita Grijalva because she would provide the missing signature to force a vote – as she did yesterday.
However, Republican congressman Thomas Massie, one of the petition’s initiators, told CNN that several of his peers told him they would vote in favour.
“I think that could snowball,” Massie said.

What about Trump and the Senate?<\/b>
In short, it’s complicated.
“<\/b>I don’t think there’s anyone in the House or Senate that wants to go on record saying that the public shouldn’t be able to see this information,” Spencer Kuvin, a lawyer representing victims of Epstein, told Sky News.
Republican Senate majority leader John Thune did not respond to a request for comment by AP on whether he will bring the bill to a vote at all. 
The vote will also put Trump “in a very interesting and precarious position”, Kuvin added.
So far, his strategy has been deflection, as he instructed Americans to focus on the shutdown instead of the “Epstein hoax” in two social media posts yesterday.
Spencer Kuvin, a lawyer representing some of Epstein’s victims, says the “time has passed” for them to ever see true justice, as the offender himself committed suicide.
All the victims would want is for the world to recognise their suffering and “the full extent of this sexual conspiracy”, he told Sky News.
He therefore believes it’s important that the US government releases all the files it holds – in particular pictures and footage.

The Democrats are trying to keep the focus on the Epstein files and potentially damaging revelations about the US president.
In a new social media post, they highlight an email from 2017 in which Jeffrey Epstein wrote:
“i have met some very bad people ,, none as bad as trump. not one decent cell in his body.. so yes- dangerous”
Among the notable revelations from the new Epstein files is an email exchange between Epstein and the disgraced former UK ambassador to the US, Peter Mandelson.
Not only do the emails from 2016 show they were in touch years after their last known contacts, they also discuss “deeply personal” matters, US correspondent David Blevins<\/a> says.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has shared her take on today’s headlines – claiming the Epstein story is a distraction from “how Chuck Schumer and the Democrats got shellacked by President Trump and Republicans in the government shutdown fight”.
The shutdown – the longest in US history – ended after eight Democrats crossed the floor on Sunday to vote with Republicans on a funding bill. 
Trump then signed the deal, passing it into law, in the early hours of this morning.
Leavitt wrote in her post: “It’s clear this [the Epstein files] is another Democrat + Mainstream Media hoax, fueled by fake outrage, to distract from the President’s wins.”
“Republicans, don’t be fooled,” she continued. “President Trump will remain focused on Making America Affordable Again.”
Shutdown aftermath<\/b>
Government officials and federal employees are currently working to get numerous services back up and running following the shutdown.
For some employees, departments and institutions, this will happen pretty quickly. 
The Smithsonian has announced it will reopen several museums tomorrow, including the Museum of American History, and the Air and Space Museum, both in Washington DC.
Other situations are a little more complex, though.
Hundreds of thousands of government employees have gone without pay during the shutdown – and still have to wait for their wages.
Health and Human Services employees were told to return to work this morning. 
But the agency said they could still have to wait until 21 November to receive their backdated pay, according to an email obtained by Sky’s US partner NBC News.
Despite resisting a vote on the Epstein files for some time, Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has defended his approach as being in favour of “maximum transparency”.
The speaker, who is in charge of tabling votes in the lower chamber, said he was really opposed to the “reckless disregard” for victims in the Democrats’ approach.
A vote has now been forced via a discharge petition by House Democrats, which bypasses Johnson’s authority.
He said “more is to come” on Epstein, with the vote set for next week on releasing all unclassified files.
