Ukraine<\/a> will face nationwide power cuts of eight to 16 hours today after Russian strikes left parts of the country\u2019s energy system in ruins, officials said.
State-owned energy company Tsentrenergo said the attacks were one of the largest on its facilities since the start of the war in February 2022, and that it had halted operations at its plants in the Kyiv<\/a> and Kharkiv regions.
Russia<\/a> launched hundreds of drones and missiles targeting energy infrastructure between Friday and Saturday, killing at least seven people.
An overnight drone attack by Ukraine temporarily disrupted power and heating supplies in the southwestern Russia city of Voronezh, governor Alexander Gusev said on the Telegram messaging app.
Meanwhile, work is under way to prepare proposals for a Russian nuclear<\/a> test, Moscow<\/a> has said, in what would be its first test of a nuclear weapon<\/a> in 35 years.

The UK is supporting Belgium with military equipment and personnel after drone sightings near airports and military bases led to temporary shutdowns in operations this week.
\u201cThe defence secretary and I agreed at the end of last week that we would deploy our people and our equipment to Belgium to help them,\u201d Richard Knighton, head of Britain’s armed forces, told the BBC.
He did not describe the details of the support provided. Knight said the actors behind the drones were not yet known, but noted Russia\u2019s increased use if \u201chybrid warfare\u201d in recent years.
German\u2019s defence minister suggested that the drone sightings in Belgium were linked to threats to use of billions of dollars worth of Russia\u2019s frozen assets to support Ukraine.
