The Norwegian Refugee Council has warned “we’re going to be talking about a worsening catastrophe” if substantial aid doesn’t get into Gaza soon.
Spokesperson Ahmed Bayram said the last two days have brought some progress in terms of aid getting in to Gaza.
“We hope that hundreds of trucks will start making their way again this week,” he said.
“Until we reach thousands of trucks, because we do have that potential if all crossings are open.
“That’s what we need now, all southern crossings open.”
Bayram said 55,000 children are facing acute malnutrition in Gaza, adding that “they face death if not treated imminently”.
He also explained that children in Gaza are going to be in need of long-term treatment.
“Education is going to be very important,” he added.
“Hospitals are not ready yet, so I would say the next period is going to be about saving those lives, saving children from dying, from hunger, that’s very much the risk today.
“It all starts with these trucks going in.”

The Red Cross has warned it will take time to hand over the bodies of hostages and detainees killed in the war between Israel and Hamas.
Spokesperson Christian Cardon said it is a “massive challenge” due to the difficulties of finding bodies among the rubble in Gaza.
“That’s an even bigger challenge than having the people alive being released,” he said.
Cardon also indicated that there is a possibility they are never found.
It comes after Hamas handed over the bodies of four dead Israeli hostages, with the families of 24 other dead hostages still waiting for the release of their bodies.
Our military analyst Michael Clarke<\/a> said the reports from Gaza’s health authorities that at least six people have been killed by Israeli fire are “not surprising”.
“The IDF made it very clear in the 24 hours before as they withdrew to these new positions, those are the positions on the yellow line and in Gaza City,” he said.
“That still leaves the IDF holding over 50% of the territory, and they said that if anybody approaches in a way that is threatening, we will react.”
“Every ceasefire is challenged on a daily basis, this is what happens when the ceasefire is declared, there’s always problems,” he explained.
“This challenge is not surprising in the sense that there is increasing chaos, now in that third of Gaza which has been, as it were, relinquished by the IDF.”

Turkey’s president has been speaking about the reconstruction of Gaza as calls grow for talks to progress on the latter phases of Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he will seek the support of Gulf states as well as the US and Europe for Gaza’s reconstruction, adding that he believes financing will be swiftly approved.
According to transcripts shared by his office, Erdogan said the decision from a host of Western countries to recognise the Palestinian state should be seen as building bocks of a two-state solution.
The 19th point in the peace plan states that, while the redevelopment of Gaza gets going and when the Palestinian Authority is reformed, the conditions “may finally be in place for a credible pathway to Palestinian self-determination and statehood”.
Israeli troops opening fire in Gaza demonstrates how fragile the ceasefire is, our international correspondent Alex Rossi<\/a> said.
“We are now a few days into it, the rest of the peace plan that Donald Trump has put in place is pretty vague,” he said.
“I think the hope now is that it can move beyond this and move to a second stage and a more comprehensive peace.”
But Rossi explained that will be the difficult part.
“It has bedevilled diplomats for decades, reaching a broader peace,” he said.
“You have to remember that all of the underlying roots and causes of this conflict very much remain today.
“I think the big things that are going to be very difficult to overcome are: who’s going to run the Gaza Strip? Who’s going to govern it? Who’s going to rebuild it?”

After Israel’s military said it opened fire on “several suspects” in Gaza (see 9.37 post), health authorities in the territory said at least six Palestinians had been killed by Israeli fire in two separate incidents.
Earlier, the Israeli military said it opened fire after suspects crossed the line of withdrawal and approached forces operating in the northern Gaza Strip.
It comes the day after Hamas returned 20 living Israeli hostages and the bodies of four dead hostages, while Israel sent 38 buses of Palestinian detainees back to Gaza.
As we’ve been reporting, the families of 24 Israeli hostages are still waiting for the release of their bodies from Gaza (see 7.29 post).
Israel’s military has confirmed the identity of two of the four bodies of dead hostages it received yesterday.
The IDF said the bodies of Guy Illouz and Bipin Joshi were handed over, while Hamas said the other two bodies released yesterday were Daniel Peretz and Yossi Sharabi.

The Israeli military has said it carried out a shooting after “several suspects” crossed the line of withdrawal and approached forces operating in the northern Gaza Strip area.
Under the first phase of the ceasefire agreement, Israeli forces have withdrawn but still remain in control of around 53% of Gaza, as shown in the map below.
The IDF said that the incident constitutes a “violation of the agreement”, adding that attempts were made to distance the suspects.
“The suspects did not comply and continued to approach the forces, and the forces carries out shooting to remove the threat,” the statement added.
“The IDF calls on the residents of Gaza to heed the IDF’s instructions and not to approach the forces deployed in the area.”
The 20 living hostages released by Hamas yesterday will undergo intensive medical testing and examination today, according to Israeli media.
Channel 12 news reports that the freed hostages will spend time with their families, but the focus is on their physical and mental health.
After being passed on to Israeli forces by the Red Cross yesterday morning, they were taken to the Re’im base in southern Israel to reunite with their families.
Five of the released hostages were then taken to Beilinson Hospital, while another five went to Ichilov Hospital and the remaining 10 went to the Sheba Medical Centre.
Yesterday’s achievements were “extraordinarily easy” compared to successfully enacting a comprehensive peace plan, says international correspondent Alex Rossi<\/a>.<\/b>
Donald Trump’s plan is “pretty vague” and “lacking in details”, Rossi says.
While that gives flexibility to negotiators, it is also a drawback, he explains.
“Nothing’s really nailed down. In terms of things like the disarmament of Hamas, that’s already proving to be a pretty difficult area, a pretty contentious area. 
“Hamas says it’s not going to give over its weapons to Israel: it will give them over to a Palestinian faction. 
“But when that would happen, if it will happen, nobody knows.
“What’s going to happen in terms of the governance of Gaza? Again, we don’t really know at this stage. It’s all very, very vague indeed. 
“And in terms of the underlying drivers of this conflict, none of those things have been resolved and none of them have yet been addressed. 
“The issue of Palestinian statehood, for instance, is still very much an aspiration and a distant prospect.”
