Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote: \u201cI am using my authority, as commander-in-chief, to direct our secretary of war, Pete Hegseth, to use all available funds to get our troops PAID on October 15.\u201d
The government shutdown<\/a> began on 1 October and is the first since a 35-day closure that happened in December 2018 and extended into the new year during Trump\u2019s first presidential term. There were close calls but no shutdowns during Joe Biden\u2019s presidential term.
The US president said he had identified the funds to make the payments to troops happen, adding: \u201cI will not allow the Democrats to hold our military, and the entire security of our nation, HOSTAGE, with their dangerous government shutdown.
