US secretary of state Marco Rubio is expected to attend a meeting tomorrow in Paris to discuss Gaza’s post-war transition, according to news agency Reuters.
Ministers from the UK, France, Germany, Italy and some Arab countries will also reportedly attend.
The summit is intended to discuss how to implement Donald Trump’s peace plan, and what resources and contributions other countries may be able to commit. 
It will be held in parallel with the ongoing negotiations in Egypt.
As we reported this morning, Israeli security forces have intercepted another activist-run flotilla carrying aid to Gaza in an attempt to challenge Israel’s maritime blockade of the territory. Nine boats were said to have been halted during the operation.

The flotilla activists that Israeli forces intercepted today and last week said they were carrying more than $110,000 (\u00a382,000) worth of medicines, respiratory equipment and nutritional supplies to Gaza. 
Israel continues to control access to the territory and strictly limits the amount of food and other supplies that reaches the Strip.
As of last weekend, 459 people, including 154 children, had died from malnutrition and starvation since the war started, according to Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry.

During a trip to India, Sir Keir Starmer was asked today what action he would take after some defied his calls to step down what he described as “un-British” pro-Palestine protests on the anniversary of the October 7 attacks.
The prime minister pointed to work being carried out by Shabana Mahmood to review protest laws, saying: “I’ve asked the home secretary to look more broadly at what other powers are available, how they’re being used, and whether they should be changed in any way.
“I think we need to go further than that in relation to some of the chants that are going on at some of these protests.”
As we reported yesterday, hundreds of students took part in protests across the country on the anniversary of the attacks and less than a week after the Manchester synagogue attack.

Some protesters could be heard chanting: “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.” Some consider the slogan to be antisemitic as they believe it calls for the eradication of Israel, although this interpretation is disputed.
The home secretary also announced over the weekend that police may be given greater powers to restrict protests.
Earlier today, Hamas said the group and Israel had exchanged lists of the remaining hostages and Palestinian prisoners to be released once a peace deal is sealed (see our post at 8.58). 
The sequence laid out by Donald Trump’s plan foresees that, once Hamas releases all 48 hostages, Israel will release 250 Palestinians serving life sentences and 1,700 Gazans who were detained since the October 7 attacks, including all women and children.
The release may also include some of the many prominent Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.
Here’s a rundown of the most notable figures:<\/b>
Marwan al Barghoui, Fatah<\/b>
Barghouti is a leading member of the Fatah movement that controls the Palestinian Authority and is considered a possible successor to its president, Mahmoud Abbas.
He is a veteran of the Palestinian resistance movement: he was an organiser in both Palestinian Intifadas, or uprisings, since 1987. According to Fatah officials, he set up the group’s armed wing, on the orders of the first PA president, Yasser Arafat. 
Barghouti was arrested in 2002 and sentenced to five life terms in 2004 over links to gun ambushes and suicide bombings.
Ahmed Saadat, Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine<\/b>
Saadat is the leader of the PFLP and has been linked to the high-profile murder of Israeli tourism minister Rehavam Zeevi in 2001. 
He was sheltered by Arafat in Ramallah and later imprisoned at a PA jail under international supervision. However, Israel seized Saadat in 2006. 
There was not enough evidence to charge him with Zeevi’s murder, but he was sentenced to 30 years in jail over other accusations.
Abdallah al Barghouti, Hamas<\/b>
Kuwaiti-born Barghouti was involved in a series of suicide attacks in 2001 and 2002 that killed dozens of Israelis. 
He was found to have the explosive belts used in the attacks, including one on a Jerusalem Sbarro restaurant in which 15 people were killed. 
He was sentenced to 67 life terms in 2004.
Ibrahim Hamed, Hamas<\/b>
Hamed was the top West Bank commander of al Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s military wing, and was on Israel’s wanted list for eight years before being arrested in 2006. 
He was accused of planning suicide attacks that killed dozens of Israelis. He is serving 54 life sentences.
Hassan Salama, Hamas<\/b>
Born in Gaza’s Khan Younis refugee camp in the 1970s, Salama was sentenced to 48 life sentences for orchestrating a series of suicide bombings that hit Israel in 1996. Dozens of Israelis were killed and hundreds wounded. 
Salama, who said the attacks were a response to the assassination of a Hamas bombmaker, was arrested later that year.

As mentioned in our previous post, Israel should have suspended its bombardment of Gaza according to Donald Trump’s peace plan, but has only halted “certain bombings” so far.
Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry says that Palestinian deaths since the start of the war have risen from 67,173 to 67,183 over the past 24 hours.
The figures reported by the ministry do not differentiate between fighters and civilians.
Turkey’s president has once more weighed in on the negotiations, saying that Israel remains the main obstacle to peace. 
“Peace is not a bird with a single wing. Putting the entire burden of peace on Hamas and Palestinians is not a fair, correct or realistic approach,” he said, speaking to lawmakers from his Justice and Development Party.
Israel must stop its bombardment of Gaza, he added.
Israel has only halted “certain bombings” despite calls from Donald Trump to halt strikes entirely as required by his peace plan.
Earlier today, Erdogan told journalists on a flight from Azerbaijan to Turkey that his government was talking to Hamas at Trump’s behest, to convince them of the best approach to the future of the Palestinian territories (see our post at 9.38am).
Protesters gathered in several countries yesterday to condemn the war in Gaza as Israelis marked the second anniversary of Hamas’s October 7 attack. 
The massacre, in which 1,200 people were killed and 251 taken hostage, sparked a retaliatory Israeli military campaign in Gaza, which has claimed more than 67,000 Palestinian lives, according to health authorities.

Candlelit vigils will take place in four major UK cities this evening to mark two years since the October 7 attacks.
The Palestinian Forum in Britain says the vigils will get underway from 6pm in Whitehall, central London, as well as in Manchester, Newcastle and Edinburgh.
It has called on Palestinians, Arabs and “all supporters of human rights and justice” to attend the events, which it says will honour “the tens of thousands of martyrs” who have been killed in Gaza.
It comes after hundreds of students joined pro-Palestinian rallies at universities in London, Sheffield and Edinburgh yesterday, despite calls from Sir Keir Starmer not to protest.
A candlelit vigil was held in Germany’s capital Berlin yesterday to mark the anniversary. 
Attendees held Israeli flags and a display on the Brandenburg Gate called for Hamas to return the remaining hostages.
