Fox Sports analyst and former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez was stabbed in downtown Indianapolis early Saturday morning <\/strong>during a physical altercation, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and Fox Sports.
In response to NBC News\u2019 inquiry about Sanchez\u2019s stabbing, the police pointed to a statement on X<\/a> about a \u201cphysical disturbance\u201d at around 12:30 a.m., after which a \u201cman with the apparent stab wounds\u201d was taken to a hospital and remained in stable condition.
The circumstances that led to the stabbing are not clear at this time.
Fox Sports also confirmed<\/a> that Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and that he is in stable condition at a hospital.
\u201cOur thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family\u2019s privacy during this time,\u201d Fox Sports\u2019 statement said.
Officers responded to an area near Senate Avenue and West Washington Street at around 12:30 a.m. due to a physical disturbance, police said.
\u201cThe incident involved two adult males, resulting in one man receiving lacerations and the other sustaining injuries consistent with stab wounds,\u201d the IMPD said in a statement <\/a>that did not identify either of the men involved. \u201cDetectives believe this was an isolated incident between the two men and not a random act of violence.\u201d
Police said that both men involved in the incident were not local residents and have received medical treatment following the assault.
An agent for Sanchez declined to comment on the incident.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, police said, adding that detectives have seen video footage of it.
\u201cThe case will be presented to the Marion County Prosecutor\u2019s Office for a charging decision,\u201d police said.
Sanchez, a California native, spent the majority of his NFL career with the New York Jets, who drafted him in 2009. He spent four seasons in New York before signing with the Philadelphia Eagles. Sanchez also spent time with the Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos and Chicago Bears before retiring from the league in 2019.
Before his time in the NFL, the former athlete had a successful college football career at the University of Southern California.
Sanchez joined ESPN as a sports analyst following his retirement from the NFL. He joined Fox Sports in 2021.
