Former FBI director James Comey has said he knew there would be \u201ccosts to standing up to Donald Trump,\u201d after he was indicted on Thursday <\/a>on one count of making a false statement to Congress and one count of obstruction of justice, in the latest move in the president\u2019s expansive retribution campaign against his political adversaries.
In a video published online, Comey said he was innocent, adding \u201clet\u2019s have a trial and keep the faith.\u201d
\u201cMy heart is broken for the Department of Justice, but I have great confidence in the federal judicial system, and I am innocent,\u201d Comey said.
Trump celebrated the charges in a post on Truth Social.
