Russia has launched a missile and drone attack across Ukraine overnight, while Ukraine says it has hit two oil refineries in Russia. Follow the latest below.

A Ukrainian politician has been shot dead in the western city of Lviv, according to police and the Ukrainian president.
Former parliamentary speaker Andriy Parubiy was killed, Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted on X.
An hour earlier, national police said it received reports of a shooting in the Sykhiv district that killed “a well-known public and political figure born in 1971”.
Zelenskyy offered his condolences after what he called a “horrendous murder”.
“All necessary forces and means are engaged in the investigation and search for the killer.”
The Russian defence ministry says its troops have control of a village in Ukraine’s Donetsk.
The remaining 30% of the eastern region still held by Ukraine is thought to be a high priority for Vladimir Putin.
Donetsk and neighbouring occupied Luhansk make up the Donbas, which some military analysts suggest Putin wants to control before any end to the war so he can sell a victory to his domestic audience after his failed attempts to take Kyiv and Kharkiv.
The EU won’t hand back frozen Russian assets unless reparations are paid to Ukraine, according to the bloc’s foreign policy chief.
Some \u00a3181.7bn in Russian assets is frozen under EU sanctions imposed on Moscow for its invasion.
“We can’t possibly imagine that… [if] there is a ceasefire or peace deal that these assets are given back to Russia if they haven’t paid for the reparations,” said Kaja Kallas.
Ukraine and some EU countries, including Poland and the Baltic states, have called for the EU to confiscate the assets and use them to support Kyiv.
But EU heavyweights France and Germany – along with Belgium, which holds most of the assets – have rebuffed such calls. 
They have pointed out that the EU has earmarked future profits from the assets to repay support for Ukraine and questioned whether there is a legal basis to confiscate them.

Residents could be seen embracing and wiping tears from their eyes as they watched on.
Moscow is using time when it should be preparing for a Putin-Zelenskyy summit to carry out “massive attacks”, says Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“Russia once again shows its utter disregard for words,” he said, after almost 540 drones and 50 missiles were launched at Ukraine overnight.
He said 14 regions were targeted by Russia.
“This war won’t stop with political statements alone; real steps are needed. We expect action from the US, Europe, and the entire world,” said Zelenskyy.
“The only way to reopen a window of opportunity for diplomacy is through tough measures against all those bankrolling the Russian army and effective sanctions against Moscow itself \u2013 banking and energy sanctions.”
Casualty figures are now starting to come in after Russia’s widespread overnight attacks.
At least one person has been killed and 24 injured, according to local authorities.
Three children were among the wounded in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, its regional governor Ivan Fedorov said.
The attack on Zaporizhzhia cut power to 25,000 residents, Fedorov said. 
The Ukrainian military says it has struck Russian oil refineries in Krasnodar and Syzran overnight. 
Kyiv’s military recorded multiple explosions and a fire at the Krasnodar oil refinery in Russia’s south, which produces three million tonnes of light petroleum products annually. 
Russian authorities in Krasnodar said falling drone debris damaged one of the refinery’s units and a fire had broken out over an area measuring 300 square metres.
Russia’s defence ministry said it had downed 11 Ukrainian drones over the Krasnodar region overnight. 
There was also a fire in the Syzran oil refinery area in Samara region, which had a processing capacity of 8.5 million tonnes per year before August, the Ukrainian military said.
Samara’s regional governor confirmed an attempt overnight to attack an industrial enterprise, but gave no further details. 
Russia has launched a missile and drone attack across Ukraine overnight, according to local officials and media.
Explosions were reported in Zaporizhzhia, Pavlohrad, Dnipro, Chernihiv, Lutsk, and Cherkasy.
Pictures showed flames burning through an apartment building in Zaporizhzhia, where its regional governor Ivan Fedorov said 40 homes and 14 blocks of flats were damaged.
The Ukrainian air force said Russia launched 537 Shahed-type attack drones and decoys against Ukraine overnight, eight Iskander-M and North Korean KN-23 ballistic missiles and 37 cruise missiles.
It said five missiles and 24 drones hit seven locations, while debris fell in 21.
