A Russian government plane has landed in Alaska ahead of Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin’s summit. Trump says he thinks Putin will “make a deal” at a second, trilateral meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. European allies are “actively” assessing possible locations. Follow live updates below.

Donald Trump has said there’s a “25% chance” his meeting with Vladimir Putin will fail.
“This meeting sets up the second meeting,” he told Fox News Radio.
“The second meeting is going to be very, very important, because that’s going to be a meeting where they make a deal.”
Trump said a second meeting – including Volodymyr Zelenskyy – would involve “give and take” on boundaries and land, although he didn’t elaborate.
He described tomorrow’s talks with Putin as “like a chess game”.
“There is a 25% chance that this meeting will not be a successful meeting,” he said.
Should it not end well, Trump added that he’s open to hitting Russia with further sanctions.
“I would, yeah… if it’s not solved,” he said.
A Russian government plane has just landed in Alaska ahead of the Trump-Putin meeting tomorrow. 
The plane left Moscow at 7.50am local time and landed at Anchorage International Airport. 
It entered US airspace at around 5.15am. 
Plane tracking website Flightradar24 says it’s carrying the Russian delegation for the meeting. 
The aircraft is operated by the Special Flight Squadron, commonly known as the Russian government’s VIP transport fleet. 
The plane has been previously used for transporting high-ranking officials and diplomatic missions. 
After hearing from the Kremlin (see previous post), Donald Trump has also been speaking about his meeting with Vladimir Putin.
The US president has told Fox News Radio that he thinks Putin is going to make a deal, and said that the threat of sanctions against Russia probably played a role in the meeting being organised.
He said tomorrow’s talks will set up a second meeting to make a deal.
Trump warned that economic incentives and sanctions are very powerful, but didn’t disclose further information on what they could include.
He added that he will call Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders after the meeting, but said he will not call anyone if the meeting doesn’t go well.
Trump said he will speak to the media after the summit, but indicated that he didn’t know if there will be a joint press conference with the Russian president.
Earlier, the White House said there would be a joint news conference between the two leaders after their meeting (see 14.18 post).
We’re hearing more from the Kremlin now on the eve of Vladimir Putin’s meeting with Donald Trump in Alaska.
Russian state news agency Interfax cites the Kremlin as saying there are no plans to sign any documents tomorrow.
It added that it would be a big mistake to predict the outcome of the high-level negotiations between Russia and the US.
Earlier, the Kremlin said the programme for the summit had been agreed, with a one-on-one meeting to be held between the two leaders – see our 10.19 post for more details.
India has started shifting its share of Russian imports and purchasing oil from new suppliers ahead of Donald Trump’s meeting with Vladimir Putin, Bloomberg reports.
State companies Indian Oil Corp and Bharat Petroleum Corp have secured supplies from the US, Brazil and Middle Eastern producers for delivery in over the next two months, according to the report.
It comes after Trump slapped an additional 25% tariff on India over its purchase of Russian oil and weapons, bringing the total levies against the country to 50%.
“I find that the government of India is currently directly or indirectly importing Russian Federation oil,” Trump said in an executive order.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has warned that Washington could increase secondary tariffs on India “if things don’t go well” between Trump and Putin tomorrow.
Emmanuel Macron has said Donald Trump showed a willingness to European leaders over providing security guarantees for Ukraine.
Trump held a call with European leaders including Volodymyr Zelenskyy yesterday ahead of his meeting with Vladimir Putin.
Macron also said that Trump had clearly ruled out Kyiv joining the NATO alliance, something that is a key stumbling block in any peace deal with Russia.
Earlier, we told you that Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had a detailed discussion over possible security guarantees when he met Sir Keir Starmer (see 12.30 post).
Press secretary Karoline Leavitt also told Fox News that the US has plenty of tools to help bring an end to the war.
Yesterday, Trump threatened “severe consequences” if Putin does not agree to peace in Ukraine, and while he did not specify what the consequences could be, he has warned of economic sanctions if his meeting tomorrow proves fruitless.
Donald Trump “loves big moments” but whether he will be able to make a breakthrough with Vladimir Putin is a different question, our US correspondent Martha Kelner<\/b><\/a> says.
She says when it comes to Trump he will have an image in his mind of him “shaking hands with another strong man leader tomorrow on US soil”.
“That will be a calling card to his vanity – he loves being the centre of attention. He loves those big moments,” she says.
“But whether he can actually find a breakthrough with Putin is an entirely different question.”
Looking at why a US military base in Alaska had been chosen as the venue for the summit, Kelner says the “key reason” is because the meeting was put together late in the day.
“It was put together so late and so haphazardly that there really wasn’t many other venues that were an option in terms of the security apparatus that has to surround these two leaders,” she adds.
“As a military base it has inbuilt security.”
Vladimir Putin will meet Donald Trump tomorrow but he has yet to speak with Volodymyr Zelenskyy despite calls for a meeting from the Ukrainian leader in May this year.
So when did Putin and Zelenskyy last meet?<\/b>
The first meeting was in 2019, when the two sides discussed an end to the fighting in Ukraine’s eastern region of the Donbas, where Ukrainian troops have been fighting Russian-backed separatists since 2014.
To try to end the fighting, Zelenskyy and Putin travelled to Paris in December 2019 for the Normandy Format Summit – an informal forum that was set up by French, German, Russian and Ukrainian diplomats after the conflict in the Donbas began.

As Donald Trump’s meeting with Vladimir Putin approaches, US vice president JD Vance has been enjoying a game of golf at Trump’s golf course in South Ayrshire, Scotland.
Vance and his family have been on holiday in the Cotswolds and yesterday the US vice president also spoke during a visit to RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire.
The scenes come as the world waits to see how Trump will respond to Putin in Alaska tomorrow.
Despite his harsher tone toward Putin over the past months, Trump has a more extensive history of trying to placate the Russian leader. 
When Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, Trump declined to directly criticise Putin. 
The Russian president has also praised Trump for working to improve Russian-US relations.
