European allies are “actively” assessing possible locations for a meeting between Vladimir Putin, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump, after the US leader said there was a “very good chance” of trilateral talks if Friday’s summit goes well. Follow live updates below.

Russia and Ukraine have exchanged 86 prisoners each.
They include Ukrainian civilians held in Russia since 2014, 2016 and 2017, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Lionised soldiers who defended Mariupol in a key battle early in the war were also among the captives.
“Almost all of them require medical care and significant rehabilitation,” Zelenskyy said.
The United Arab Emirates carried out mediation, said the Russian defence ministry.
Freed Russian soldiers are in Belarus for “psychological and medical assistance”, the ministry added.
Russia and Ukraine have swapped hundreds of prisoners since talks began between the two nations earlier this year.
It is the only substantive outcome of the negotiations, which Vladimir Putin has been accused of using as a token gesture to convince Donald Trump he is serious about ending the war, while simultaneously continuing to pursue a long-war policy of grinding, incremental territorial gains in Ukraine.
Keir Starmer and Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed yesterday’s meetings with European and US leaders over breakfast, Downing Street says.
“They agreed there had been a powerful sense of unity and a strong resolve to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
“They then looked ahead to tomorrow’s talks between President Trump and President Putin in Alaska, which present a viable chance to make progress as long as Putin takes action to prove he is serious about peace.
“They agreed to stay in close touch in the coming days.”
Starmer shared a short clip providing us with a glimpse into the hour-long meeting.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy says he had a detailed discussion of possible security guarantees for Ukraine with Keir Starmer.
Security guarantees are assurances and mechanisms that Kyiv could rely on to prevent Russia from launching yet another invasion in the event that the two nations come to a peace deal.
The security guarantees aim to “make peace truly durable if the United States succeeds in pressing Russia to stop the killings and engage in genuine, substantive diplomacy,” he says.
Zelenskyy adds that the leaders also touched on investment in Ukrainian drone production. 
Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron have led what they call the “coalition of the willing” – a group of nations willing to deploy a so-called reassurance force to police any peace agreement made by Ukraine and Russia.
It forms an important potential component of any post-war security arrangement.
It is progress that a meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin is taking place, a Ukrainian MP has said.
Speaking to Sky’s Anna Jones<\/a>, Lisa Yasko said she had “mixed feeling” about the upcoming meeting between Trump and Putin.
“I cannot call it something good or something bad,” she said.
“It’s progress that this meeting is taking place.
“I’m not worried that Zelenskyy is not a part of that because I believe that he will be included with Europe in the next stages of the talks.
“At this stage the establishment of very honest conversation between Trump and Putin is very much needed and we hear every day that Trump promises something like sanctions or a new deal with Russia with minerals.
“Hopefully there will be more clarity after this meeting.”
Asked if she was confident that Ukraine’s voice would be heard in discussions going forward, she added: “There is no other way, we have to make sure our voice is heard.
“I’m not saying that everything is optimistic. I’m sure that we will be forced to accept certain positions that will be agreed between Trump and Putin but we have a right not to agree and demand something that is important to us.
“At the same time, we should use the momentum of these negotiations very wisely so we cannot reject everything. 
“We should demand a ceasefire but with the other hard questions we need to have a  plan with how we discuss this.”
Vladimir Putin says the US is making a “sincere effort” to find a solution to the crisis in Ukraine and suggested Moscow and Washington could reach a deal on nuclear arms control that could strengthen peace.
The Russian leader often refers to his all-out invasion of Ukraine and repeated bombing of civilian centres as a “crisis” or “special military operation”.
The comment comes as the Russian leader prepares to meet Donald Trump face-to-face in Alaska tomorrow.
Trump told reporters yesterday that he might broker a second meeting that includes both Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy if the Alaska session goes well.
But Russia has given no indication it is prepared to make concessions amid Ukrainian worries that Trump might make a deal without their input. 
For context<\/b>: Earlier this year, Trump said  he wanted to restart nuclear arms control talks with Russia and China.
He expressed his hopes that all three countries could agree to cut their large defence budgets in half.
Putin bringing this to the table will therefore be well received by Trump.
It should also be noted though that the Kremlin has not provided any comment on leaving the Ukrainian territory it has invaded, while Ukraine has insisted that ceding territory would be unacceptable.
Allies are “actively” evaluating several European locations for a possible meeting between Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin before the end of this month, EU sources have told our Europe producer Simone Baglivo<\/b>.
Sources say the second meeting is dependent on how the Alaska meeting tomorrow goes, but allies agree that the location needs to be in Europe.
If tomorrow’s meeting is successful, the EU and US are expected to hold a call on a follow-up meeting between all three leaders on Saturday afternoon.
Zelenskyy has previously proposed Rome as a meeting place but countries such as France, Finland, Spain and Germany think a more neutral location, such as Geneva, would be easier.
Separately, Turkey has also twice pitched hosting talks.
Volodymyr Zelensky has now left Downing Street but we are receiving images of his sit down with Sir Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street this morning.
Earlier, the Ukrainian president and the prime minister embraced and posed for the cameras in front of Number 10 with a handshake as he arrived in Westminster.
A red carpet had been rolled out for his arrival.
Starmer’s meeting with Zelenskyy comes after he said Britain stands ready to “increase pressure” on Russia if necessary.
Ukraine has secured $1.5bn in US weapons purchased by European allies, Volodymyr Zelenskyy says.
The Ukrainian leader says the NATO Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List, which allows allies to purchase US-made weapons for Ukraine,  is “already bringing tangible results”.

Germany will fund a $500m military equipment package for Ukraine under NATO\u2019s new Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative. 
The country’s foreign ministry has said that along with other allies, it is prepared to fund “one of the first comprehensive support packages” to show its enduring commitment to Ukraine’s defence.
“The support packages will include military equipment that is either not manufactured by the European defence industry or that can be delivered at the intended scale more swiftly by the United States than by European partners or Canada,” the German foreign ministry said in a statement.
“This includes, for example, critical air defence capabilities.”
What is PURL?<\/b>
On 14 July, Donald Trump announced that the US would supply Ukraine with military equipment and ammunition in the form of several support packages via NATO.
PURL was created as a mechanism to support Ukraine’s war effort and allows European allies and Canada to make financial contributions to purchase weapons and other essential equipment in large volumes from the US.
NATO will then collate these supplies into packages and facilitate their delivery.
The programme for the talks between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin has been agreed, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov says.
He says it will be a one-on-one meeting with translators and “sensitive matters” will be discussed.
The central topic of the meeting will be the Ukraine crisis but the pair will also discuss trade and economic cooperation, Ushakov says.
The Kremlin aide sought to emphasise the economic element of the upcoming discussions, which he said would look at the “huge untapped potential” for Russia-US economic ties.
Both leaders will give a news conference at the end of the summit.
Trump and Putin will also have a wider meeting with delegations and a working breakfast.
