The IDF has shared footage that it said shows its forces dismantling tunnel routes and shafts used by Hamas.
It said “dozens of terrorists” were killed in the strikes, which it said hit multiple targets including observation posts and launch positions.
Sky News has not been able to independently verify the footage.
After our interview with IDF spokesperson Nadav Shoshani (see last post to watch it back), we caught up with international correspondent Diana Magnay<\/a>, who is in Jerusalem.
She says she was “quite surprised” by Shoshani’s willingness to appear on Sky News, especially given he gave no new evidence that slain Al Jazeera journalist Anas Al-Sharif was a Hamas fighter, as the Israeli military claims.
“It seemed as though the IDF is still standing behind a sort of shield of its sensitive intelligence and verification process,” she says, adding that current evidence was “inadequate”.
“It’s very hard to verify these few documents which they put forward last October, which, for example, had Al-Sharif’s name on what they say is a Hamas telephone list.”
Magnay also notes that Shoshani said categorically that Israel “does not target journalists” in Gaza, despite latest figures suggesting around 200 journalists and media workers have been killed in the enclave since the war began.
“That’s a very, very hefty toll,” she says. “If all of those are collateral damage, because the IDF didn’t mean to kill but they got killed anyway, it looks pretty bad.”
A spokesperson for the Israel Defence Forces has told Sky News that Al Jazeera journalist Anas al-Sharif is “not this angel people are speaking about”, doubling down on allegations the slain reporter was a Hamas fighter.
The Israeli military claims that Al-Sharif, who was killed alongside five other journalists in Gaza City on Sunday, was a member of Hamas’s military wing and received a salary from the group.
The only evidence Israel has released is screenshots of spreadsheets it says were found in Gaza apparently listing Hamas operatives and containing Al-Sharif’s name.
Al Jazeera denies the claims made against Al-Sharif, as did the correspondent while he was alive. The International Committee of Journalists has also refuted the allegations. The Committee to Protect Journalists in July warned Al-Sharif could be assassinated.
Speaking to presenter Jayne Secker<\/a>, IDF spokesperson Nadav Shoshani insisted Al-Sharif was part of Hamas but said supporting evidence was classified.
“There are more complex, more delicate intelligence that we have to treat very carefully because intelligence that you declassify, if you don’t do it in a careful manner, you can’t use it the next time,” he said.
Shoshani suggested revealing some types of classified evidence could put Israeli sources in harm’s way and was “a very long, complex” process.
“If you don’t believe it, it’s okay, but do your job and present it – this is a person who celebrated the death of civilians,” he claimed. 
“He’s not this angel people are speaking about. He’s a terrorist. And in addition to that, he has been promoting terror and supporting terror in his job as a journalist.”
When challenged over whether the other journalists killed in the attack were also working for Hamas or considered collateral damage by Israel, Shoshani only said the IDF was “looking into further details” of the incident.

Despite some in the audience shouting encouragement, she was removed by security guards after she finished walking the first part of the runway.
The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza says 100 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s offensive in the enclave in the past 24-hour reporting period.
According to its latest figures, 61,599 people have now been killed by Israel since 7 October 2023.
A further 154,088 have been injured during that time, it added.
The ministry also reports on the number of Palestinians killed in Gaza since 18 March, the day a shaky two-month ceasefire ended with Israel launching surprise strikes across the enclave.
That figure, the ministry says, has now reached five figures, with 10,078 killed and 42,047 injured.
For context: <\/b>The ministry’s figures do not differentiate between Hamas fighters and civilians.
While Israeli officials have cast doubt on the numbers killed in Gaza, several independent groups say the figures have proved to be largely reliable and broadly in line with those later produced by the UN and Israel itself.
Examination of data from previous Gaza conflicts, comparing the ministry’s counts with post-war UN analysis, shows the initial data is largely accurate with, at most, a 10-12% discrepancy.
Chief correspondent Stuart Ramsay<\/a> <\/strong>has been inside the West Bank for a special report<\/a> on Israeli settlers.

Antony Blinken says decisions by the UK, France and Canada to recognise Palestinian statehood are “morally right” but “totally beside the more pressing realities”.
Writing in The Wall Street Journal<\/a>, the former US state secretary said the priorities should be “averting famine, recovering the hostages and ending the conflict in Gaza”.
The former diplomat claimed the decisions made by London, Paris and Ottawa would not produce a Palestinian state or end the suffering in Gaza. 
Instead, he argued the three countries, as well as the US, should embrace a “time-bound, conditions-based path” towards recognising a Palestinian state.
Blinken also said the decision by the Israeli security cabinet to take over Gaza City, where more than one million Palestinians are sheltering, would be unlikely to help free the remaining hostages.
“Israeli occupation would perpetuate the misery of innocent Palestinians and be a recipe for an enduring insurgency that bleeds Israel militarily and morally,” he wrote.

They show hundreds of Palestinians scrambling to collect aid supplies that entered on trucks through Israel.
The United Nations has warned that the current level of aid entering is Gaza is not enough, stressing yesterday that “Gaza faces starvation, pure and simple”.
Israeli opposition Lair Yapid has backed calls for a nationwide strike on Sunday in protest of the expansion of the war and take over of Gaza City.
Relatives of the remaining hostages, who say the play threatens the lives of the captives, announced plans to stage a nationwide strike two days ago in Tel Aviv. 
Within hours, the October 7 Council, which represents bereaved families of soldiers killed at the start of the war, said “hundreds” of companies would join the strike, as well as “thousands of citizens who have declared they will take the day off”.
Posting on X, Lapid encouraged all Israelis, including supporters of the current government, to join the walkout:
Strike out of solidarity. Strike because the families have asked, and that\u2019s reason enough. Strike because no one has a monopoly on emotion, on mutual responsibility, on Jewish values.
Go on strike so that for at least one day, it’s clear that we still have a shared good. That being Israeli means, first and foremost, having a heart.

Much of Israel’s private tech sector declared that it would back the general strike action next week, as did the Israel Bar Association.
Israel’s largest worker union, known as the Histadrut, has said it will not join. However, it did say it would support workers planning to participate in a protest rally on Sunday.
