We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.<br \/>Ukrainian president <a href=\"\/topic\/volodymyr-zelensky\">Volodymyr Zelensky<\/a> could participate in this week\u2019s US-<a href=\"\/topic\/russia\">Russia<\/a> summit in <a href=\"\/topic\/alaska\">Alaska<\/a>, America&#8217;s ambassador to Nato suggested.<br \/>Asked whether Zelensky could meet US president <a href=\"\/topic\/donald-trump\">Donald Trump<\/a> and Russian leader <a href=\"\/topic\/vladimir-putin\">Vladimir Putin<\/a>, ambassador <a href=\"\/topic\/matthew-whitaker\">Matthew Whitaker<\/a> said, \u201cYes, I certainly think it\u2019s possible.<br \/>&#8220;The decision to invite Zelensky was entirely Trump\u2019s, Whitaker said, adding that \u201cif he thinks that is the best scenario to invite Zelensky, then he will do that&#8221;.<br \/>US vice president <a href=\"\/topic\/jd-vance\">JD Vance<\/a> earlier said<a href=\"\/topic\/vladimir-putin\"> Putin<\/a> and <a href=\"\/topic\/volodymyr-zelensky\">Zelensky<\/a> would be \u201cforced\u201d to meet by <a href=\"\/topic\/donald-trump\">Trump<\/a>.<br \/>However, he <a href=\"\/news\/world\/americas\/us-politics\/trump-zelensky-alaska-peace-summit-putin-b2804971.html\">dismissed calls from European leaders to allow the Ukrainian president<\/a> to attend the summit <a href=\"\/news\/world\/europe\/trump-putin-ukraine-alaska-peace-talks-where-when-b2804968.html\">meeting <\/a>on Friday, saying it would not be \u201cproductive\u201d at this point.<br \/><a href=\"\/news\/uk\/politics\/david-lammy-jd-vance-ukraine-zelensky-trump-russia-land-b2804969.html\">European leaders, including Keir Starmer, jointly welcomed<\/a> the move towards peace on Saturday but warned that any negotiations should see <a href=\"\/topic\/ukraine\">Ukraine<\/a> represented and they must not permit any <a href=\"\/news\/world\/europe\/russia-ukraine-map-trump-putin-alaska-land-swap-b2805043.html\">land to be ceded to Russia<\/a>.<br \/>The statement came after <a href=\"\/topic\/trump\">Trump<\/a> suggested the deal might involve \u201csome swapping of territories\u201d, an idea <a href=\"\/topic\/zelensky\">Zelensky<\/a> was quick to reject. <br \/>One person was killed and two others were hospitalised following a Ukrainian attack targeting an industrial zone in the Nizhny Novgorod region in western Russia, Gleb Nikitin, the governor of the region, said on the Telegram.<br \/>Earlier, Tula governor Dmitry Milyaev said at least two people died and two people were hospitalised in the Tula region as a result of a Ukrainian drone attack that also targeted Moscow and other regions.<br \/>Russian air defence units destroyed a total of 59 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 12 over the Tula region and two over the Moscow region.
