The immediate priority is saving lives,\u201d he added.<br \/>Five to 10 inches of rain fell overnight as part of an intense, slow-moving storm across Kerr and Kendall counties. The runoff from parched land caused the Guadalupe River to crest at one of its highest ever peaks, with water levels in Kerrville rising more than 22ft in just a few hours overnight.<br \/>Of concern are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kerrvilletexascvb.com\/p\/meetingplanners\/childrens-summer-camps\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">more than a dozen summer camps<\/a> dotted in the rural region that would now be filled with kids.<br \/>\u201cWe have a lot of camps,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kens5.com\/article\/news\/local\/texas\/kerr-county-texas-camps-mystic-flood-weather\/273-f99cf554-90f9-4835-8e2e-a8009bec4f24\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Kelly told the local news outlet Kenns5<\/a>. \u201cI don\u2019t know any specifics about any individual camps. I do know everybody is doing their very best.\u201d<br \/>Staff at Camp Mystic, an all-girls summer camp, notified parents that all campers at Cypress Lake and Senior Hill are accounted for, adding that those whose daughters are \u201cnot accounted for\u201d have been notified, according to the outlet.<br \/>\u201cWe are working with search and rescue currently,\u201d the camp said in its communication. \u201cThe highway has washed away so we are struggling to get more help. Please continue to pray and send any help if you have contacts to do so.\u201d<br \/>Two Camp Mystic directors, Britt and Catie Eastland, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/story\/news\/2025\/07\/04\/floods-kill-6-in-hill-country-flooding-some-children-are-reported-missing\/84470695007\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">told the Austin Statesman<\/a> that some children are not accounted for and that some cabins appear to have been flooded and possibly washed away. They also said the roads have been washed out and that they need urgent air assistance.<br \/>Authorities have urged people to exercise caution and avoid driving on water-covered roads as the extreme conditions continue. \u201cConditions are life-threatening! DO NOT go out onto the roads,\u201d the National Weather Service in <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NWSSanAngelo\/status\/1941108484847886805\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">San Angelo<\/a> urged on Friday morning. \u201cExpect roads washed out and <a href=\"https:\/\/mesonet.agron.iastate.edu\/vtec\/?year=2025&amp;wfo=KEWX&amp;phenomena=FF&amp;significance=W&amp;eventid=39&amp;tab=textdata&amp;radar=USCOMP&amp;radar_product=N0Q&amp;radar_time=202507041030\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">rapid rises<\/a> on rivers and creeks.\u201d<br \/>The sheriff\u2019s office added that \u201cthe entire county is an extremely active scene. Residents are encouraged to shelter in place and not attempt travel. Those near creeks, streams, and the Guadalupe River should immediately move to higher ground.\u201d<br \/>In Kerrville \u2013 the seat of Kerr county \u2013 the mayor, Joe Herring Jr, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/KerrvilleTX\/posts\/pfbid0YAMyzkf8F8B7JCMhqhngKvzkvXwH4hGLauMCnrWz4SuJ6a5McqGBAE4cxHQnkTdpl\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">issued a disaster declaration<\/a> for the city on Friday morning due to the dangerous flooding.<br \/>The rains come after a long drought in the region that has left the soil bone-dry, increasing the chances of runoff leading to flash flooding.<br \/>\u201cAutomated rain gauges indicate a large and deadly flood wave is moving down the Guadalupe River,\u201d the National Weather Service <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/weather\/alerts\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">warned<\/a>.<br \/>\u201cFlash flooding is already occurring. This is a flash flood emergency for the Guadalupe River from Center Point to Sisterdale. This is a particularly dangerous situation. Seek higher ground now!\u201d<br \/>The rains in central Texas are expected to continue until later Friday.<br \/>Strong storms are also being blamed for at least three deaths in central New Jersey, including two men in Plainfield who died after a tree fell on to a vehicle they were traveling in during the height of the storm, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/cityofplainfieldnj\/posts\/1056506086632470\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">according to a city Facebook post.<\/a> The men were ages 79 and 25, officials said. They were not immediately publicly identified.
