Chelsea<\/a> and Benfica are facing off in Charlotte in the second match of the round of 16 at the 2025 Club World Cup.<\/strong>
A place in the quarter-final against Palmeiras is the prize after both sides navigated their way through the group stage. Benfica topped their group ahead of Bayern Munich<\/a>, while Chelsea were runners-up to Flamengo.

The yellow card is out for the first time today and it has been shown to Pavlidis.
He followed up a really loose touch with an even looser challenge on Fernandez who had stolen in ahead of him. Perhaps harsh to receive a yellow, but it was definitely a foul and from his own mistake, so he can't have too many complaints.
Complain he did, though, as that means he will miss the quarter-final if Benfica win this one.

This is a quick start to the second half from Chelsea, just what Maresca will have wanted to see.
After failing to take advantage of the corner, the ball was worked to Caicedo 30 yards from goal and he stepped into space before taking aim for the bottom corner.
It wasn't far away but was always moving wide of the far post \u2014 and Trubin probably had it covered, in any case.

We didn't see too much of Nicolas Otamendi because his centre-back partner was stealing all the limelight.
The Argentine has rectified that immediately after half-time with a brilliant almost-acrobatic clearance to divert Palmer's dangerous cross \u2014 that was going straight to Delap eight yards out from goal \u2014 behind for a corner.
There was a brief moment where it looked like Otamendi might have deflected it past his goalkeeper, but it landed well safe.
46' Benfica 0-0 Chelsea<\/strong>
Half-time break over and the ball is rolling again at Bank of America Stadium.
One change and it is for Benfica \u2014 Andreas Schjelderup has been replaced by Kerem Akturkoglu.
The Benfica goalkeeper is young in goalkeeping years at 23 but he's been vital to his side staying in this game so far.
He has pulled off a string of saves to prevent Chelsea from scoring and until his defenders find a way to keep the likes of Palmer and Fernandez quiet, he could yet face a busy second half.
Can Benfica build from the clean sheet he has maintained?
Marc Cucurella found time to chat to DAZN on his way in to the dressing room at half time to hear some pearls of wisdom from Enzo Maresca.
He had a couple of chances in the first half \u2014 here's how he reflected on them:

As they did in the 1-0 win against Bayern in their last match, Benfica back themselves to protect their own goal and strike with a rare opportunity at the other end of the pitch.
The key to that gameplan? A good defence and a good goalkeeper.
And they have got that. Antonio Silva has been excellent in the heart of the defence and the man behind him, Anatoliy Trubin, has been equally impressive. When Trubin was beaten by Cucurella's first effort, Silva was there to make a crucial block and vice versa when the centre-back had been pulled out of position.
Another big chance of that half for Chelsea fell to Cucurella.
The left-back scored seven goals last season but all came at home at Stamford Bridge.
His quick feet saw him find a yard to smash a shot in the centre of the box, only for Trubin to deny him.
Chelsea were on top in the first half and they came close on a couple of occasions.
This strike from Cole Palmer drew a good near-post save from Trubin in the Benfica goal.

Goalless at half-time in Charlotte. Chelsea had seven goal attempts to Benfica's one (five on target to Benfica's none) but it felt like they lost momentum as the first half wore on.
Since the early stages there has only really been that one chance for Marc Cucurella, which was well saved by Trubin.

There was a late chance for Palmer that was blocked by Silva, his third block of the game and the dreadful resulting corner taken by Neto was the last action of the first half.
A curious half for Chelsea that one; they started strongly and looked threatening but their confidence waned as Benfica became more stout defensively. The Portuguese side have defended their box well but have lacked anything that resembles a threat at the other end.
Should be an interesting second half after this 15-minute break!

45+3' Benfica 0-0 Chelsea<\/strong>
Chelsea really <\/em>don't need this.
Caicedo has become so vital to this team, but he has just been down on the turf and seemingly in a lot of pain.
It came after a fairly innocuous collision but the replay showed that the Ecuadorian's knee possibly hyperextended. He was immediately clutching the back of his knee, so hopefully it's nothing serious.
He did get back to his feet, though and has carried on \u2014 the Chelsea physios will want to have a proper look at him at half-time.

The strong start that Chelsea made in the match suggested they might make light work of this last-16 tie but the longer this game goes on, the harder they are finding it to break through this resolute Benfica backline.
And they have been pretty sloppy in possession of late.
Meanwhile, three minutes have been added on.

He's already had a good shot saved and every time he is on the ball, Cole Palmer looks lively.
His movement has been so fluid and you fancy him to find a run in behind that will really unlock Benfica soon.
If Chelsea need a moment of individual brilliance at any point, they know they can rely on Palmer.

Delap is not having the best game out there for Chelsea. Another sloppy pass from the young Englishman got picked off and Benfica launched a counter-attack.
Reece James then lazily committed a foul but advantage was played with the Portuguese side breaking at speed.
The cross into the box wasn't a bad one and was headed for a team-mate but Caicedo has positioned himself immaculately to clear the danger.
39' Benfica 0-0 Chelsea<\/strong>
One of the most impressive aspects of Cucurella's improvement at Chelsea has been his threat in the final third.
Had it not been for a superb block from Silva earlier, he would have given his side the lead in this match and he has just been denied by an excellent Trubin save.
The Spaniard was played into space on the left-hand side of the penalty area and the Benfica goalkeeper was out quickly to close down the angle. Cucurella tried to do Trubin with the eyes and went for the near post but a stiff arm came out to deflect the effort away from goal.
Yet another great save at this tournament for the Ukrainian.

Benfica manager Bruno Lage is starting to get pretty annoyed down on the touchline.
He is watching his players commit the same errors over and over, I suspect errors that he picked out when he spoke to them during that cooling break a few minutes ago.
They haven't been able to string four or five consecutive passes together and they are giving the ball back to Chelsea so easily.

Keen to make a quick start after the cooling break, Palmer's eyes lit up when he moved into space a few yards outside the penalty area.
His left-footed strike wasn't great, though and Trubin didn't have to move far to save it.

Some of Chelsea's attacking play has been decent. Delap's running has caused the Benfica defence a few problems, notably when he helped set up Cucurella, whose shot was cleared off the line by Silva. Palmer then struck a fierce left-foot shot towards the near post, but Trubin was equal to it.<\/p>\n
