Donald Trump has just announced a “total ceasefire” between Iran and Israel.
Posting on his social media platform Truth Social, he wrote: “CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!”
He said this is a war that “could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East”, but it “didn’t, and never will”.
There has not yet been a comment from Israel or Iran.
Briefly back now to Israel’s attacks on Iran.
Iranian media is reporting three soldiers have been killed in an attack on Bandar Abbas, a city on Iran’s south coast.
The three have been named as Mojtaba Ali Akbari, Hamed Rabbani and Mehran Munavari, according to Mehr news agency.
The report doesn’t state when they were killed, only saying it happened in recent days.
Relationship-building efforts between Iran and the Arab Gulf states will be impacted by the attacks tonight.
Iran targeted a US base in Doha with missiles, which its top security body insisted did not pose a threat to “friendly and brotherly” Qatar.
But a Gulf official has suggested ties could be affected.
Speaking to Reuters, he said: “Iran’s actions play into the hands of Israel, which wants to sow discord and derail recent improvements in relations between Iran and the Gulf countries.”
Over recent years, Gulf countries Saudi Arabia and the UAE have restored once-frayed ties with Iran.
For its part, Saudi Arabia has said it “condemns and denounces in the strongest terms the aggression launched by Iran against the sisterly State of Qatar”.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attack “constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and the principles of good neighbourliness”. 
“It is unacceptable and cannot be justified under any circumstances,” it added.
Iranian state media is now reporting the country’s security commission has backed plans to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
A spokesperson, cited by Iran’s Tasnim news agency, is quoted as saying: “During today’s meeting of the Parliament’s National Security Committee, members of the committee voted in favour of the general outline of the proposal requiring the government to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.”
The IAEA had declared that Iran was in breach of its non-proliferation obligations for the first time in 20 years on 12 June.
As the US and UK lift advice for citizens to take shelter in Qatar – see the post below this one – the Gulf state has now reopened its airspace.
Qatar had closed airspace just ahead of Iranian attacks, but its civil aviation authority has now confirmed that block has been lifted.
In a sign no more Iranian attacks are expected in Qatar, both the US and UK have lifted advice for citizens to find shelter in the Gulf state.
The US embassy added it will reopen tomorrow.
The UK said it has been in touch with local authorities and reviewed the security situation.
“British nationals do not need to shelter in place and should continue to follow advice from the local authorities,” the foreign office said.
A brief comment here from Iran’s supreme leader, who has just posted a short message on social media.
The Iranian nation doesn’t surrender, he says in a post written in English.
While the base targeted by Iran in Qatar has reportedly sustained no damage and reported no casualties, Iran’s leaders have hailed “punishing” the US.
Images from Tehran show some Iranians taking to the streets to celebrate.
Israel has just warned residents in a part of Tehran to evacuate.
In a post shared in Farsi and alongside a map of the evacuation zone, the IDF said the military will be “operating in this area”.
“Dear citizens, for your safety and well-being, we kindly request that you immediately evacuate the specified area on the map and avoid approaching it in the coming hours,” it added.
Iran has also been threatening to close the Strait of Hormuz, the world’s busiest oil shipping channel, in retaliation for the US strikes on its nuclear facilities.
