Follow live coverage of moving day at the 2025 U.S. Open at a punishing Oakmont Golf Course.<\/strong>
The third round is rolling along with J.J. Spaun<\/strong> and Sam Burns<\/strong> tied at the top (3 under).
Rory McIlroy<\/strong> ended his media silence<\/a> after another frustrating round, in which he defended his decision to avoid talking to the press. \u201cI feel like I've earned the right to do whatever I want to do,\u201d he said.
Adam Scott<\/strong> is going to be looking back at these short birdie opportunities and thinking what could've been. It's another short birdie miss for the Aussie, this time at the 11th.
This time, it was an 11-foot, uphill putt that touched the hole, missing to the right. Scott remains at even, sitting three off the lead.

Both J.J. Spaun <\/strong>and Sam Burns <\/strong>land their second shots on the green at No. 10. Both settle for par.
No damage done for the final group. They remain tied for the lead at 3-under-par heading to No. 11.
Viktor Hovland <\/strong>just birdied 9 and 10 in the same round for the second time this week (he also did it Thursday).
The rest of the field has combined to do it two times \u2014 Carlos Ortiz and JT Poston each did it in round 1.
Sam Burns <\/strong>and J.J. Spaun <\/strong>walk to the back nine tied for the lead at the U.S. Open. They both are at 3-under-par for the tournament, with Spaun 1 under for the day while Burns is even.
Spaun has two birdies and one bogey on his card. Burns has one birdie and one bogey on his card. Both are playing very solid in the final group.

Viktor Hovland <\/strong>is BACK. After an early bogey, the Norwegian has back-to-back birdies at holes 9 and 10. His latest was a downhill trickler that slowly rolled its way into the hole.
Hovland is now 1 under for the tournament, two off the lead. He's right in this.

The Norwegian left his approach seven feet from the pin for birdie. Hovland sank the putt, improving to even par heading to the back nine.
He's only three off the lead and very much in this golf tounament.

Scottie Scheffler <\/strong>finished off an even-par 70. He had four birdies and four bogeys in a round that felt like it left a lot out on the course. He's seven shots off the lead currently. We'll see where he is by the end of the round, but he had a real chance to make some noise today.
Tyrrell Hatton <\/strong>is playing out of his mind today. He's 3-under through 13, and he (one of the better putters in the world) has missed some big birdie opportunities to be scoring much better.
He's second in the field in strokes gained Tee to Green and just three back.
That's a U.S. Open par save for Sam Burns. <\/strong>At No. 7, the American drains a five feet, left-to-right curler for par.
Burns remains tied for the lead with J.J. Spaun <\/strong>at 3 under, who also made par at the seventh. To the long par-3 eighth the leaders go.
Oh my word! Adam Scott <\/strong>nearly <\/em>chips in for birdie at the par-3 eighth.
He was in the left bunker and the Aussie leaves his chip a mere six inches from the hole. The Aussie goes to the ninth hole at even for the tournament.
Adam Scott <\/strong>had a short birdie opportunity at No. 7. It was four feet. FOUR feet.
And the Aussie missed it. Even a spectator from the crowd yelled, "You should've made that."
Yes, Scott should have. He will need to recycle that from his brain quickly. He heads to the long par-3 eighth at even par for the tournament.

The birdies are what golfers desire. But the par saves are often the critical putts en route to winning major championships.
That's what J.J. Spaun <\/strong>and Sam Burns <\/strong>just did at No. 6. After leaving his 29-foot birdie putt four-feet short, Spaun knocked in the par save to stay at 3 under. Burns knocked in the three footer for par to remain tied for the lead.
The rain may have returned at Oakmont. However, that hasn't dampened Sam Burns' spirits. <\/strong>
The American gets back to 3-under-par after an incredible 141-yard approach that lands two feet from the hole. He makes the birdie putt to move into a tie for the lead with J.J. Spaun.<\/strong>
The final group is holding their own so far.
That\u2019s a disappointing finish for the Scotsman considering how he was playing earlier. Things got a little loose late on in his round with bogeys on 13, 15 and 18. But it\u2019s his best round of the week and he\u2019s the new clubhouse leader on +3. He\u2019ll be keeping his fingers crossed that conditions worsen this afternoon.
Scottie Scheffler <\/strong>loses another shot with a bogey at the 15th hole, and he has dropped back to 5 over, 1 over for the day. Scheffler has just been stuck all day and not able to get anything done. It feels like he has missed a big chance to make a big move and put any real pressure on the leaders. <\/p>\n

Oakmont giveth, Oakmont taketh away.
Just minutes after birdieing the fourth, Ben Griffin<\/strong> gets a little sloppy on the fifth. He dumped his tee shot in the juicy rough down the left and had to hack his way out, the ball ending up on the neighbouring hole. From there it was actually a fairly straightforward shot to the green, but one two-putt later and he slides back to +1, level with Carlos Ortiz and Viktor Hovland.

Brooks Koepka\u2019s<\/strong> par run is stopped at four with a bogey on the par-3 eighth hole, which is just brutally hard. Koepka\u2019s tee shot was fine, 46 feet from the hole, but he missed the 5-foot par putt. And now he has to deal with the ninth hole. <\/p>\n

J.J. Spaun <\/strong>is once again the solo leader at the U.S. Open. His third approach shot was hit to perfection, landing four feet from the cup. The American drained the birdie putt to return to 3-under-par for the tournament.
Sam Burns <\/strong>couldn't take advantage of the par-5 fourth, missing the six-foot birdie putt. He saves par to remain at 2 under, one back of Spaun.
Adam Scott <\/strong>gets his first birdie of the day. He sinks a three-foot putt on the par-5 fourth to get back to even par for the tournament.
