We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.<br \/>President <a href=\"\/topic\/donald-trump\">Donald Trump<\/a> has said he is sending the <a href=\"\/topic\/national-guard\">National Guard<\/a> to <a href=\"\/topic\/los-angeles\">Los Angeles<\/a> to crush the ongoing anti-ICE protests, saying he will use the federal government to crush the \u201cRIOTERS &#038; LOOTERS, the way it should be solved!!!\u201d<br \/>\u201cIf Governor Gavin Newscum, of <a href=\"\/topic\/california\">California<\/a>, and Mayor <a href=\"\/topic\/karen-bass\">Karen Bass<\/a>, of Los Angeles, can\u2019t do their jobs, which everyone knows they can\u2019t, then the Federal Government will step in and solve the problem, RIOTS &#038; LOOTERS, the way it should be solved!!!\u201d Trump wrote.<br \/><a href=\"\/topic\/white-house\">White House<\/a> Press Secretary <a href=\"\/topic\/karoline-leavitt\">Karoline Leavitt<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefings-statements\/2025\/06\/statement-from-the-white-house-d320\/\">said that 2,000 National Guard troops<\/a> will be sent to Los Angeles to arrest protesters. <br \/><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/06\/department-of-defense-security-for-the-protection-of-department-of-homeland-security-functions\/\">The White House said<\/a> it was activating the <a href=\"\/topic\/national-guard\">National Guard<\/a> under Title 10 authority, putting the troops under federal command \u2013\u00a0not by invoking the Insurrection Act.<br \/>The decision came towards the end of a second day of street protests in the United States\u2019s second biggest city, following a series of <a href=\"\/topic\/immigration-raids\">immigration raids<\/a> by ICE agents on Friday.<br \/>On Saturday about 100 protesters faced off with <a href=\"\/topic\/law-enforcement\">law enforcement<\/a> officers who fired flash-bangs and irritants. And, if violence continues, active duty Marines at Camp Pendleton will also be mobilized \u2014 they are on high alert.\u201d<br \/>California Governor <a href=\"\/topic\/gavin-newsom\">Gavin Newsom<\/a> called Hegseth\u2019s tweet \u201cderanged.\u201d<br \/><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GavinNewsom\/status\/1931565409440088175\">He tweeted<\/a>: \u201cThe Secretary of Defense is now threatening to deploy active-duty Marines on American soil against its own citizens. This is deranged behavior.\u201d<br \/>He also accused the Trump administration of trying to provoke a reaction, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GavinNewsom\/status\/1931540820517360125\">tweeting<\/a>: \u201cThe federal government is taking over the California <a href=\"\/topic\/national-guard\">National Guard<\/a> and deploying 2,000 soldiers in Los Angeles \u2014 not because there is a shortage of law enforcement, but because they want a spectacle. Don&#8217;t give them one. Never use violence. Speak out peacefully.\u201d<br \/>Earlier on Friday, Trump\u2019s border czar, <a href=\"\/topic\/tom-homan\">Tom Homan<\/a>, signaled plans to send the National Guard to Los Angeles to combat protests against ICE that began on Friday following <a href=\"\/topic\/immigration-raids\">immigration raids<\/a> in the city. <br \/>\u201cWe are making Los Angeles safer. Mayor Bass should be thanking us. She says they are going to mobilize\u2014guess what? We are already mobilizing. We are going to bring the National Guard in tonight,\u201d Homan told Fox News. <br \/>Earlier Senior <a href=\"\/topic\/white-house\">White House<\/a> adviser <a href=\"\/topic\/stephen-miller\">Stephen Miller<\/a> railed against the protests, calling the demonstrations an \u201cinsurrection\u201d against the United States. In response to a post on X showing footage of the mass demonstrations, Miller wrote &#8220;An insurrection against the laws and sovereignty of the United States.\u201d<br \/>There were<a href=\"\/news\/world\/americas\/us-politics\/trump-big-beautiful-bill-deportations-cost-b2765523.html\" title=\"Mass deportations from Trump\u2019s Big, Beautiful Bill could quietly cost U.S. over $1.4 trillion\"> tense confrontations between police and demonstrators<\/a> in LA on Friday, in response to operations by <a href=\"\/topic\/immigration-and-customs-enforcement\">Immigration and Customs Enforcement<\/a> agents, who arrested at least 44 people on immigration violations, before starting again on Saturday at a Home Depot in the Paramount section of the city.<br \/><a href=\"\/topic\/los-angeles-police-department\">Los Angeles Police Department<\/a> Chief Jim McDonnell said the force had not been involved in the ICE operations.<br \/>\u201cWhile the LAPD will continue to have a visible presence in all our communities to ensure public safety, we will not assist or participate in any sort of mass deportations nor will the LAPD try to determine an individual&#8217;s immigration status,\u201d McDonnell wrote in a statement.<br \/>However, Homeland Security Investigations, a branch of ICE, said that 44 people had been administratively arrested on Friday and another person was arrested for obstruction.<br \/>In another tweet, Miller wrote: \u201cSiding with invaders over citizens. If we don\u2019t fix this, we don\u2019t have a country.\u201d<br \/>Federal agents executed search warrants at three locations, including a warehouse in the fashion district of L.A., after a judge found there was probable cause the employer was using fictitious documents for some of its workers, according to representatives for Homeland Security Investigations and the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office.<br \/>Advocates for immigrant rights say people were detained Friday by immigration authorities outside Home Depot stores and a doughnut shop.<br \/>The <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em> reported that multiple chants of \u201cFuera ICE\u201d (ICE, get out) could be heard and flash-bang grenades were set off, though it was unclear who had set them off. At least two deported individuals \u2014 a <a href=\"\/news\/world\/americas\/us-politics\/migrant-deported-mexico-returned-trump-judge-order-b2763995.html\">migrant from Venezuela <\/a>and <a href=\"\/news\/world\/americas\/us-politics\/kilmar-abrego-garcia-return-el-salvador-ice-b2765415.html\">Maryland father Kilmar Abrego Garcia<\/a>, who was wrongfully sent to El Salvador \u2014 have been returned to the U.S. after judicial orders demanded their return. <br \/>ICE officials and a group of detainees are <a href=\"\/news\/world\/americas\/us-politics\/djibouti-ice-brian-murphy-trump-b2764678.html\">currently stuck in Djibouti<\/a> after a judge\u2019s order demanded the deportation of the detainees be halted.
