He was then released in 2011 as part of an exchange between Israel and Hamas.<br \/>He married Eman – who had spent 10 years in an Israeli jail accused of attempting to plan a suicide operation in Jaffa – during his release.<br \/>Barghouti was a member of the armed wing of the Fatah movement when he was given his life sentence in 1978 and later joined Hamas. He was rearrested in 2014.<br \/>Eman said she remembers seeing her husband gazing at the stars “because he didn’t see them for 33 years and a half”.<br \/>To find out more about the most prominent Palestinians held in Israeli prisons, click below…<br \/>According to Iranian state media, Tehran has today unveiled an underground naval missile base somewhere in the Persian Gulf.<br \/>State TV showed Revolutionary Guards chief General Hossein Salami visiting the secret base during war games. <br \/>He said it’s one of several built underground for vessels capable of firing long-range missiles and distant warfare.<br \/>“We assure the great nation of Iran that their young people are capable of coming out honourable and victorious from a battle on the seas against enemies big and small,” Salami added.<br \/>The base was built 500 metres below the ground and images showed tunnels with long rows of what state TV said were a new version of radar-evading speedboats that can launch cruise missiles.<br \/>It comes just two days before Donald Trump begins his second term as president.<br \/>Iranian leaders are concerned Trump may empower Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to strike their nuclear sites while tightening US sanctions on its oil industry.<br \/>As we’ve been reporting, there is opposition to the impending ceasefire deal within Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.<br \/>His far-right security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has said he and most of his party will resign over their opposition to the agreement.<br \/>He said he plans to submit his letter of resignation on Sunday morning, when the ceasefire is set to begin.<br \/>Ben-Gvir called the deal “reckless”, but his resignation will not bring down the government – despite shrinking Netanyahu’s majority – or derail the ceasefire deal.<br \/>It does, however, destabilise the government at a delicate moment and could eventually lead to its collapse.<br \/>It likely depends on how many people join Ben-Gvir in resigning.<br \/>Police have said they were arresting a group of around 20-30 pro-Palestinian protesters on suspicion of breaching conditions in central London.<br \/>We reported earlier there are thousands demonstrating in central London today, with the rally limited to Whitehall – see our 3.43pm post.<br \/>But the Metropolitan Police said demonstrators broke a police line as they marched towards Trafalgar Square.<br \/>“Around 20 to 30 people who breached the conditions are still contained in Trafalgar Square,” the force said earlier.<br \/>“They are being arrested.
