We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.<br \/>At least five people have been killed as several <a href=\"\/news\/world\/americas\/palisades-fire-map-altadena-eaton-california-b2675558.html\">fast-moving wildfires sweep<\/a> across the Los Angeles area, leaving <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/news\/world\/americas\/southern-california-wildfires-devastation-photos-b2675823.html\">thousands of firefighters <\/a>attempting to extinguish the blaze.<br \/>The death toll climbed to five as of Thursday morning after the Eaton fire <a href=\"\/news\/world\/americas\/california-wildfires-altadena-deaths-livefeed-b2676308.html\">raged through Altadena<\/a> and Pasadena, L.A. County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone confirmed to <em>The New York Times.<\/em><br \/>The Palisades fire, now the one of the <a href=\"\/news\/world\/americas\/southern-california-wildfires-devastation-photos-b2675823.html\">most destructive L.A. has seen<\/a>, is burning more than 17,200 acres, while the Eaton fire has scorched some 10,600 acres. The Sunset fire in Hollywood has engulfed 60 acres. All three fires are at zero percent containment.<br \/>An estimated 2,000 buildings have been scorched and <a href=\"\/travel\/news-and-advice\/pacific-palisades-wildfire-flights-traffic-travel-advice-b2675709.html\">130,000 residents<\/a> ordered to evacuate, including more than 60,000 in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood. More than 330,000 people are without power throughout the region, according to<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/poweroutage.us\/\"> PowerOutage.us<\/a>.<br \/>On Thursday, <a href=\"\/news\/world\/americas\/california-la-pacific-palisades-fires-b2675601.html\">California Governor Gavin Newsom<\/a> revealed that more than 7,500 firefighting personnel and almost 1,200 fire trucks have been deployed across Southern California. He also thanked President Joe Biden, who announced the approval of a major disaster declaration and ordered federal assistance to bolster response efforts. <br \/>Some 20 individuals have been arrested for allegedly looting homes and businesses affected by wildfires.<br \/>\u201cAbsolutely unacceptable,\u201d Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna told reporters. <br \/>Those who remain in the area are guilty of a misdemeanor. <br \/>\u201cOur first choice isn\u2019t to do enforcement&#8230;\u201d he noted. \u201cIt\u2019s to help people.\u201d<br \/>Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone said Thursday that the growth of Acton\u2019s Eaton Fire has been \u201csignificantly stopped.\u201d<br \/>Mutual aid resources continue to arrive in response to the blaze, and 879 firefighting personnel are working on the incident. <br \/>There have been several reported injuries and deaths and more than a thousand structures were damaged. <br \/>The fire\u2019s cause remains under active investigation.<br \/>Los Angeles officials said that significant progress has been made due to aerial operations and weaker winds.<br \/>\u201cAngelenos should continue to proceed with caution,\u201d Mayor Karen Bass told reporters at a Thursday press conference.<br \/>\u201cYou can see how fast and devastating these wind-driven fires are.\u201d<br \/>Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be ordered to evacuate their home in Montecito, California amid the raging wildfires in Los Angeles.<br \/>The home of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex may be hit with a power outage as the family\u2019s space is located in Santa Barbara County. In its map of the state, the Southern California Edison (SCE) has indicated that Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) are being considered in Santa Barbara.<br \/>Meanwhile, a large part of Montecito has been deemed a \u201chigh fire risk\u201d area, with warnings of a power shutoff already issued. I know that a lot of people don\u2019t want to hear that, but I\u2019m capable,\u201d Randy Stoklos, who has lived in Pacific Palisades for 65 years, told <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/abc7.com\/live-updates\/socal-braces-possibly-destructive-windstorm-amid-dangerous-fire-weather\/15771235\/entry\/15775986\/\">ABC 7<\/a>.<br \/>He described dousing a fire at his home, only to discover it had reignited early Wednesday.<br \/>\u201cI stopped a couple of fires. I stopped one, and then it reignited at about 4:30 this morning, and thank God I woke up at the perfect time and I got it and I stopped it from burning my house,\u201d he said, holding back tears. \u201cIt\u2019s pretty incredible what Mother Nature can do.
