Donald Trump<\/a> has posted his traditional rambling Christmas message calling out various foes, taunting adversaries, and reiterating his desire for U.S. territorial expansionism \u2014 including retaking the Panama Canal<\/a>, incorporating Canada<\/a> into the union, and buying Greenland<\/a>.
A Danish official said an announcement that the country is boosting defense spending for Greenland, was an \u201cirony of fate.\u201d
Troels Lund Poulsen, the Danish defense minister, told the paper Jyllands-Posten <\/em>Tuesday that the country plans to spend a \u201cdouble-digit billion amount\u201d in krone \u2014 about $1.5 billion \u2014 to make sure they have a \u201cstronger presence\u201d in the Arctic.
Trump said the \u201cownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity\u201d for the U.S., which operates a base in the territory\u2019s northwest.
Meanwhile, college campuses across the country are calling the nation\u2019s more than 1 million international students back to school before Trump\u2019s inauguration, warning that the possibility of an imminent travel ban targeting certain countries could impact their return.
At the same time, Trump allies Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy have divided their party<\/a> with recent comments lamenting the quality of the U.S. workforce.
The Trump administration is planning to jail immigrant families together in detention centers before they are removed from the country.
\u201cWe\u2019re going to need to construct family facilities,\u201d Tom Homan told The Washington Post<\/em> in a recent interview. \u201cHow many beds we\u2019re going to need will depend on what the data says.\u201d
Trump and Homan have repeatedly said that even U.S. citizen children of non-citizen parents are expected to be deported along with their families.
\u201cHere\u2019s the issue,\u201d Homan told The Post.<\/em> \u201cYou knew you were in the country illegally and chose to have a child. So you put your family in that position.\u201d

Trump has nominated Miami-Dade Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera for U.S. ambassador to Panama, \u201ca Country that is ripping us off on the Panama Canal, far beyond their wildest dreams,\u201d the president-elect Trump announced on Christmas Eve.
\u201cFew understand Latin American politics as well as Kevin,\u201d Trump said.
Cabrera also served as state director for Florida in Trump\u2019s 2020 campaign and is vice chair of Miami-Dade\u2019s International Trade Consortium.
His nomination follows a seemingly random attack suggesting that the U.S. would seize control of the Panama Canal, part of a series of statements aimed at other countries in a signal that his administration is threatening U.S. territorial expansion to bully sovereign nations to his economic demands.
Panamanian President Jos\u00e9 Ra\u00fal Mulino fired back, emphasizing the canal would remain under Panama\u2019s control.
\u201cThe sovereignty and independence of our country is non-negotiable,\u201d he said.
Some of Donald Trump\u2019s most prominent critics are bracing for impact.

His comments follow wider tensions within the Trump coalition, which includes both far-right anti-immigration views, and an increasing embrace of the tech industry, whose workforce is highly diverse and made up of many immigrants and first-generation Americans.
