The USA, looking to enter elite territory when it hosts the world junior hockey championship, got off to a good start on Friday, Dec. 26 when it beat Germany 6-3 in the opener.
The Americans enter the event having won back-to-back titles for the first time in their history and now will look for a three-peat at the tournament for under-20 players. Canada is the only country to do that this century, winning five in a row from 2005-09.
The tournament, in its 50th year, will be held in Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5.
